Birmingham's Idol Lends a Hand

About 4 years ago, Birmingham's favorite son Taylor Hicks, became our American Idol. We were thrilled. Taylor's not only talented but an all around nice guy. He was on a little break from touring with Grease, so he came home to visit friends and family. On Thursday he joined the hard working folks from Habitat for Humanity and Independent Presbyterian Church to help complete a Habitat home in the Wylam neighborhood. Of course I was there to capture the event!

BTW, when all the TV camera crews packed up and went home, Taylor was able to get some work done!

He always came across as a really nice guy on the television. Shorter haircut now! Looks like a very worthwhile project with a great group of folks.

I always liked Taylor Hicks and was rooting for him. Cute....ah, if I were younger...

Nice photos of all, and you capture his charisma well.

I like it when entertainers remember where they came from!

He was a real standout on the show, such deep and true musical talent. I'm so glad to know he's one of the genuine good guys. Great post!

I think Habitat is one of the best support groups out there ... and I say bravo to Mr Hicks for all he is doing both in person and via the press!

And good on you for capturing/sharing it!

I love this organization. (If I recall, Chieftess is a member.) Thank you for sharing photos of all these heros.

I remember him. Probably the only time I ever watched that show!

Nice to see him involved in community "development!"

Good for him. Sounds like he's not the kind of celebrity who shows up for the photo op and then blows off in his limo. I am vaguely aware of who this person is. I've seen his face on magazines at the supermarket checkout counter. He, uh, sings or something?

My daughter-in-law's company sponsored five homes in the Atlanta area and she did a lot of work on them. Found it very rewarding. Looks like they all have too!
