Vintage Becky

Birmingham artist Becky Denny was in her element last Friday night. Showing her work at the yet unfinished lobby of our Lyric Theatre, her vintage mixed media work was perfect, shown on the bare walls!  This piece, MY WARDROBE, brought back many memories of vintage sewing patterns that I remember!

The Grand Marshal

Fabulous Birmingham photographer Liesa Cole was the Grand Marshal of this year's Bike Parade and Fishing Rodeo at Avondale Park.  She got in the decorating spirit herself with her Regions bike adorned with fly swatters and that knock out hat festooned with flowers.  Below she awards the First Prize for Best Decorated Bike!

You Make Me Feel Like Dancing

This past weekend, I celebrated my 50th Shades Valley High School reunion along with about 270 friends.  We were the largest graduating class in Shades Valley's history, 650+.  Many friends of our class joined us, and it made for a terrific weekend full of reminiscing, many laughs and dancing to The Ramblers.  The Ramblers were a group we loved in high school and lucky for us, they're still playing.  Good times rolled!

Saxy at the Pepper Place Market

This saxophone player has appeared many times at the Pepper Place Market.  He appeared with Debbie Bond when I captured him this day.  If anyone knows his name, I would love to include it!

Light Dreams II - Lite Brite!

I'm not sure how many kiddos remembered the original Lite Brites from the 70's, but  at Light Dreams II, this oversized version was too much fun to pass up, no matter your age.

Light Dreams II - Wonder

Where to begin to show you the photos I took last night in one of Birmingham's greatest events, Light Dreams II.  This free event that runs Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at the Alys Stephens Center at UAB, was even better than last year. It is a celebration of digital projection, art ( in 3D this year) and music and is free. Today I share a photo of what looked to me like a satellite made of styrofoam packing material lit from within.  This was a favorite of the children of course.

Guarding the Garden

While her mom was away, Eudora found herself a nice bunch of iris to nap on.  I was snapping away and caught her!

Pet the Pugs Market

And all this time you all thought the PPM was the Pepper Place Market! Actually, Harry and Lulu are famous and now featured on this Pepper Place promo! As a personal note, I photographed these pugs years ago at the market and now they are my downstairs neighbors!

Photographer's Obsession

Some of you will understand this, most of you won't.  I have been eying this collection of blue glass electrical "thingys" in my neighborhood for well over a year.  I toyed with the idea of just pulling  up in the driveway and snapping away but thought better of it.  As luck would have it, my neighbor knows the owner and now a world of great photo ops are now mine......legally. I know I have readers that will know the name for these lovely aqua treasures.

There Goes the Bride

I often assist with weddings at my church, Independent Presbyterian Church.  Usually, I tuck my camera in my bag, just in case.  This was a shot I couldn't pass up.

Perfect Afternoon

Sunset atop Red Mountain at The Club last night with good friends.  Two are leaving for a long awaited trip to London and Paris. ( We had last minute details to discuss). The other flying off for another three weeks in Italy.  Good times.  I can't wait to hear all the details when we gather again.

Anticipation!

I adore peonies.  I will admit I've been stalking the peony garden at our fabulous Birmingham Botanical Gardens.  Yesterday they seemed ready to pop open... but not quite.  I can promise I will be back and capture them in full bloom. I can't wait!
