Urban Steeples

The beautiful First Presbyterian Church in downtown Birmingham. I love it's classic design and the fact that this is a very caring congregation that is a vital part of our downtown community doing such wonderful outreach.

Days Gone By

This summer, I've photographed the Thomas Jefferson Hotel ( built in 1929), which is currently under renovation. Windows in the grand old ballroom at some point were painted over. With the renovation complete, it will be restored to an elegant event venue. Stay tuned!

Music To My Ears

It's no secret that I love getting down to the Pepper Place Market on Saturday mornings. I love the bustle of the crowds, seeing farmers, bakers, artists and artisans who I know from year to year, getting bags full of fresh Alabama veggies, and hearing the music of the local musicians. I caught this guy as I was heading to my car. I apologize for not getting the name of his group.

Designer Radishes

A trip to the Pepper Place Market is always a learning experience. Who knew about watermelon radishes? I didn't taste them but they are so beautiful, when cut, who could resist buying a bag full?

Popsicle Series II

Meet my little buddy Dewey. Dewey is a sweet neighbor, and Wednesday, I spotted him enjoying the sticky patriotic pop at the IPC Day School's summer program. The popsicle truck came by and everyone was slurping down their fast melting popsicles! Messy faces were a given.

Popsicle Series I - Mmmmmmm

When I decided to move my blog from Birmingham Alabama Daily Photo to Birmingham Through My Lens, it was to give myself some creative space to share photos with you when and if I felt I had something of interest. I always wanted to be able to do a little series now and again. Well it's summer in Birmingham and hot as hades. I've found some really cute kiddos cooling themselves off with icy treats and will share for a few days. I hope you enjoy!

Today, we visit the Pepper Place Market. There are several popsicle vendors there every Saturday and they do a booming business!

Lazy Days of Summer

I visit my friend Ginger's beautiful garden every few weeks as I'm doing a year long project for her. It's hard to stay on task when that hammock is beckoning!

Ready and Waiting!

Swimsuits in the locker room at the Children's Fresh Air Farm awaiting happy swimmers. Each summer Independent Presbyterian Church's Summer Learning Program offers 6 weeks of academic instruction along with a healthy dose of enrichment and FUN for STAIR students. These STAIR students who have completed grades 2,3, and 4 love their time at the farm. Not only are they having fun, they are keeping up those academic skills over the summer.

Weather permitting, I plan to drive up there this week for more photos.

Almost Ready!

I have the delightful assignment ( it's too much fun to call a JOB!) of photographing my friend Ginger Clark's beautiful and eclectic gardens every month for a year. I ran by this morning right after the sprinklers turned off and found everything green and lush. In the old bathtub, planted with lettuce and cherry tomatoes I found some that will be ready any day now, if the critters don't get there first!
