Sweet Memories

With a heavy heart, we bid farewell to our dear blog friend Karin Bugge. Her blog Altadena Hiker, was one of the fist blogs I followed way back in 2008. In 2010, my blog reader Judy Dunn and husband Dave flew me to Los Angeles so I could meet my Pasadena, South Pasadena, Altadena and Palo Alto blog friends in person. Karin was a talented writer and animal lover and I loved her dearly.

W'e're going on an egg hunt!

Enough!

I won't be marching in Birmingham today, but I will be there in spirit!  My friend Bethanne Bethard Hill's poster speaks for me as well. I pray this movement will be the end to the violence in our country.

Found it!

The wee ones have a hard time finding the one zillion eggs thrown out in plain sight. While helpful parents point them out, they just have fun wandering around and sometimes, even stumble on an egg!

Frank Flemming 1940-2018

Birmingham artist Frank Fleming passed away yesterday. I was privileged to know him as a neighbor back in the 90. He would walk up and down Saulter Road in his shorts and floppy hat, and give me a wave. In 2010, I spent some time with him,  and he graciously allowed me to photograph his studio, housed in his home. He was a humble, kind and gentle man. He will be sorely missed but his magical creatures located all over this city will always be a reminder of his creative spirit.

Egg Hunt Memories

This year, I was down with a bad cough and didn't make it to Independent Presbyterian Church for the annual EGG HUNT!  I was so sad, I took a trip down memory lane to Egg Hunts past and found some sweet kiddos that I recognize! I'll share some of my favorite hunt photos this week and next.

Parisian

Found on an alley in downtown Birmingham, the remains of our iconic department store. My mom and I shopped there when I was growing up and in later life, I worked at their Vestavia store for several years. Now it makes me smile as it's taken on another meaning, my love for all things Parisian!

Think Pink, Think Spring

I know. I know. We might get another little, weird spring snow or freeze. I prefer to relish the tulips that are popping up and saying a little prayer they will continue to flourish!

Welcome Senator and Mrs. Jones!

On Friday, the STAIR students and tutors at Oliver Elementary welcomed some very special guests. Senator and Mrs. Doug Jones came for a visit to see just how much these second graders in the STAIR of Birmingham program were learning. They greeted each and every student and tutor, then they shared the reading of Dr. Seuss' Oh The Places You Will Go. It was a great day for all of us!
