Last Wednesday, my grandson Davis and I went to Birmingham's Rickwood Field to photograph the Rickwood Classic game. This year's honoree was Rollie Fingers, Major League Baseball All Star, Cy Young Award winner, and former Birmingham A pitcher. Fans stood in the heat for over an hour to have Rollie sign their baseballs and posters. We were lucky to be able to be on the field when he threw out the first ball. As he left the field, Davis was thrilled to get his autograph!!

Still has that signature handle bar mustache after all these years!
He certainly stands out in a crowd!
He was one of my favorites!
I remember when he played for the Oakland A's. Great pitcher with his trademark mustache.
Still has the mustache. I guess it's his trademark.
How you suffered for your grandson. A baseball game.
Rollie Fingers !! WOW !! He's from the golden era of Milwaukee Brewers---A team that included Robin Yount, Cecil Cooper, Paul Molitor,Gorman Thomas, (etc,). I did not realize that he had a connection to Birmingham !! ( wow,,,you REALLY took me down memory lane with this post !!!!!)
I don't watch much baseball, but he sure looked familiar when I saw your pic! He must be a classic!!!
