Finally

Finally, this last weekend I was able to view the former Empire Building/Elyton Hotel  from the rooftop Moonshine Bar. For years I have shot this iconic Birmingham building from the street. Sunday I was able to get a terrific shot.

Men at Work!

I'd like to take this time to salute the hard working Brasfield and Gorrie crew who have worked tirelessly on the renovation of the Pizitz Building. They work in the cold and Lord knows the summer heat here in Birmingham,. I have visited their construction site photographing since last February and without fail, they were always friendly, polite and allowed me to do my thing. These are the guys that show up day in and day out and are bringing this lovely old building back to life. As a proud wearer of a Brasfield and Gorrie hard hat, I tip mine to all of them!

Off With the Old

By October,  the mezzanine of the Pizitz Department Store will be transformed into office space. Meanwhile, I"m still enjoying the grunge while I can!

Another Beauty

In January, it was announced that at the Shepherd Sloss Building on Birmingham's southside, will undergo a restoration process to bring it back to its 1930's-1040's glory. This terra cotta building thankfully still has some fine details in tact.

The old City Federal Building, Birmingham's first "skyscraper"in 1913, has found a new life as downtown condos. Thankfully, the left the beautiful façade in tact. 

Look Up Birmingham - City Federal Building

Once Birmingham's first skyscraper, the City Federal Building is now some very nice condos. At least they didn't take the wrecking ball to it. I love it at night!

Look Up Birmingham - Massey Building

Built in 1925, the Massey Building in downtown Birmingham building has my favorite columns and lovely detail work... but you have to look up.  I was on Third Avenue N. this week and decided to try and find a new way to look at this wonderful landmark.
