Yesterday my dear friend and very talented pianist, Michael Dulin played a Valentine's concert for the residents at St. Martins in the Pines Assisted Living.  There were red balloons, cupcakes, punch and a lot of smiling faces as Michael played some of his original pieces and then took requests from the audience, a crowd pleasure, that brought on so clapping and toe tapping!  Tomorrow, come back to meet the King and Queen of Hearts and a few more happy faces.

Making Beautiful Music

As many of you know, I have had the pleasure of working ( it's not really work, he buys my lunch and if begged will occasionally play for me ) for my dear friend and very talented pianist,  (I call him Maestro!) *Michael Dulin.  Mike's wife Jan and I taught together for many years. When I retired, Mike hired me to help with promoting his last CD, Follow the River.  Well now he's about to launch a new CD, so I will again be recruited as V.P. for Shipping and Handling!  Timeless II, will debut shortly. I'll keep you posted when you can order it.  If you are a classical music fan, you will want to order it along with Timeless.

Thursday With Ted and Mike

Today was just a great day. As many of you know, I work part time for my friend and very, very talented pianist, Michael Dulin. Well today Mike asked me to tag along with him and photograph his good friend Ted Haddin. Mike has a new website and it includes a blog. Guess who does his blog each week? Well our visit with Ted is Mike's featured post for tomorrow, and I decided rather than reinvent that wheel, I'd just let Michael Dulin do the talking here today as well. That works for me!

"On Christmas morning, I received a delightful phone call from a dear friend of mine, Ted Haddin. As a Christmas greeting, he read a Christmas poem that he had written, then dropped the phone and played the beautiful Coventry Carol for me on his 250-year-old violin.

Ted's a true Rennaissance man, with an astonishing range of talents and interests. He is a published author and poet, a former professor at UAB, he taught not only English literature, but Russian, German and French literature as well. He is also a very fine musician and gifted raconteur.

So, bright and early Thursday morning, Virginia Jones ( my new photographer-in-residence, remember?) and I set out to pay Ted a visit at his home. He serenaded us with some old standards, a little Fritz Kreisler, and at Virginia's request, a lovely rendition of La Vie en Rose. I even accompanied him in a performance of a Corelli sonata."

May I add a big thank you to Ted for opening his home to us today. I was the lucky girl to hear both he and Michael play together! He let me rearrange his furniture for a better photo op and was so dear to play the loveliest version of La Vie en Rose on his pricelss violin pour moi. Merci Ted!

And for my Birmingham readers, if you're very lucky you might be at Nabeel's in Homewood on a Friday night have the pleasure of hearing Ted play!

Only the Shadow Knows

A few months back I mentioned how hard it is for me to get anywhere on time,  because I see a potential photograph and feel compelled to stop and take it.  Well it happened again the other day.  I went to my friend Michael Dulin's recording studio, Polymusic Studios.  As we were leaving to have lunch, I spotted these shadows on the wall,  and you know what happened next. Mike understands me,  so he waited patiently,  and we were only a little late for lunch!

I know you expected BW on this one but my producer/manager Wayne and I  reached consensus ( drumroll please!)  that this was the way to go.

My friend Laurie at South Pasadena DP, likes to post a photo and have her viewers conjure up a possible movie script.  This photo has Laurie written all over it.  Have at it you creative viewers out there.

Timeless

I found a new antique store the other day.  Christopher House is located in the Pepper Place antique district.  The afternoon sun was streaming in the high windows and I wanted to photograph everything it touched.  Not my usual subject matter, but it was all about the light. These antique candleholders with their beautiful prisms made for some gorgeous reflections. Timeless indeed.

English, oui???

Several months ago I posted a photograph of the interior of Continental Bakery here.  I mentioned that this bakery, reminiscent of a French boulangerie, was located in an area called English Village in the suburb of Mountain Brook.  Some of you chuckled at a place called English Village that had such a charming  French style bakery.  Today I show you the outside. English? Mais oui!

The Tune du Jour is a special one.  Last week I featured my  friend and talented musician (here),  Michael Dulin.  I am happy to report that you can now sample his music and make a playlist on Deezer.com  .  I can also treat you to his music right here on my blog.  The Tune du Jour is "The One I Waited For".   I especially chose this song because not only is it a personal favorite, but the one he waited for is a very dear friend as well. Enjoy .

Play It Again, Michael

Meet my friend and part time boss, Michael Dulin.  He is an accomplished musician/ composer and recently I have had the privilege of helping him market his latest CD, "Follow the River". Due to his extraordinary talent and my humble clerical skills, he was ranked Number 1 for the month of June in the New Age/ Smooth Jazz category - worldwide!  I couldn't be more proud.  I have hounded him mercilessly to let me photograph him while he "tinkled the ivories" !  He finally caved.  I regret that I cannot let you hear him play right here on my blog, but you can hear him here and and find out more here.  Birmingham is fortunate indeed to have a talent the likes of Michael Dulin in our midst.
