I will admit to having an affection for hands, hands at work especially. At Magic City Woodworks, sanding is painstaking work requiring patience, requiring frequent stops to feel the wood's surface.

Hands by Rodin

These hands belong to Jean d'Aire, Nu ( 1885-1886; cast 1986), one of Rodin's best know sculptures. A nude study for the famous Burghers of Calais.  Taken in the Sculpture Garden of the Birmingham Musueum of Art.

All In Favor....

I have been meaning to visit Frontera for a long time, and take you with me of course. Well I went this week in search of a coffee table base and photos. I found both! Frontera specializes in hand crafted wrought iron furniture and accessories, but they've got lot more. A whole lot more. This wooden crate of hands for instance. I laughed out loud and then pulled my camera out. We'll be back.

A Pickin' and a Fiddlin'

My friend Snapper at Gabriola BC Daily Photo inspires me in a lot of ways. Lately his "Musicians' Hands Series" has knocked my flip flops off. I captured this guitarist and fiddler at the Magic City Art Connection. I apologize for not getting the name of the group. Snap suggested I try them in BW and of course he was spot on!

The Hands of the Artist - Lonnie Holley

Recently I was fortunate to meet Birmingham artist Lonnie Holley. I was thrilled that he allowed me to capture his interesting hands while he was doing a demonstration at Lite Box Gallery at the Pepper Place.

Hands and Clay - Shadow Series V

Two Generations

Today we return to the Magic City Art Connection.  One thing I dearly love about this event is the  outstanding job they do with providing art activities for children. One fourth of Linn Park is devoted to just that.  I zeroed in on the clay tables mainly because of the incredible light that was coming through the trees illuminating their hands.
