Today is Theme Day for 178 City Daily Photo participants around the world. I love this day because I can hardly wait to see how each and everyone of this creative group has interpreted the theme. This photo is from one of my favorite Birmingham hot spots.... Reed Books, The Museum of Fond Memories. I have posted many photos here and here. It is the most sublime jumble of memorabilia and books that you could ever hope to uncover! This photo is from a tiny room that is WALL TO WALL books just like this. As a former teacher the best advice I could ever offer parents is this..... read to your child, listen to your child read, encourage them to read, talk to them about they/you have read, let them see YOU read, read together! Got it? READ, READ, READ!!!!
The Tune du Jour is " I've Got A Crush On You" by Rod Stewart and Diana Ross. Oh I do LOVE this one!!!

Wow! Such stacks you have there, Virginia!
(congrats on the code too! weehee!)
Take me here. I'd be in book heaven, Virgina. What a mass of books. I love the light and the way you've photographed this too.
So many wonderful books & so colorful. & only 15 more days until you can shop at -- was it Shakespeare books by Notre Dame? Is that still there I wonder? You'll have to let me know.
(Yes, Tash; it's still there!)
Virginia, lovely photo and EXCELLENT POST! READ and tlk to your children!!! Nothing else will get their vocab going.ultur
I like these walls of books I would indeed read the one who is down
;-)
What a wonderful place, V! I would certainly love to emerse myself among those books. I can spend hours and forget about myself with those books.
Nice choice for the theme day.
These are your books I bet. I used to have walls of books and then gave them all away. I only have a few that are laying around that I bought.
I forgot about theme day today so I just found some of the books I wrote and took a photo and published that. Too late to be included in the group but it worked for me. LOL
I love it! It's got so much history. Nice photo!
Happy theme day! Enjoy your weekend!

To Tash: Yes, Shakespeare and Co is still there and it's still fascinating. Virginia, I love stacks that allow browsing and pleasant surprises when one finds a book that interests. Fun photo.
I thought you had come over and take a picture of my bedroom walls!!! ;~))
By the way,I listened to Bocelli, thank you ,you are right it's a very nice version.
Have a good WE.
I love book stores like this. I can spend hours on end inside and I'm sure to come home with my arms full, cookbooks, childrens books, you name it!
Happy Theme Day :)
And who wouldn't want to visit fond memories?! Great place.
Thanks guys!
Looks like Deezer is down this morning. Hope you didn't miss Rod Stewart!! If you did come by later and check.
One of the negative things about my CDPB is that I spend so much time on it I have less time to read. That concerns me. I think about that stack of books on my bedside table and wonder how I'll find better balance.
Keep polishing your French.
Our entire family LOVES to read...and our kids are all about books! Your words in today's post are so very true...love the photo, also!
I used to read a lot in the past. ow it takes me all too long to get through a book. This photography thing I fear has interfered with my reading.
What a lot of fantastic books. That is the place to go to find that elusive book! Great photo for theme day :)
Nice photo Virginia! I've nominated you for a Kreativ Blogger award. Stop by GDP to see how it works and pass it on. Cheers!
Snap, How nice of you. I admire your work so very much. It is a privilege to accept this from you my friend!
Well Halloween's over and I sadly relinquish my voluptuous figure, relocated cleavage, and cute purple dress as Natasha. Boris will return to being Daffy Duck, an apt moniker. My new photo is a sweet memory. Taken outside Notre Dame with Eva, March 2007.
Awesome collection! Love this shot! Nice musical selection for today too!
Yes, books !
Il "love" Rod Steward...
See You later.
So little time, so many books to read. Great post!
I get, I get it. Sheesh.
Good afternoon, Virginia! Wow, what a header!!!
I lke this duet with Rod and Diana on one of my favorite standards.
If I were in front of those books I would sit down and begin to read and then I would have to be dragged out of there. I've loved books all my life.
Bookstores with panache are welcome places on my list of places to waste time :)
Only 2 weeks before Paris??? Yeah!
We started 'reading' to our son at 3 months. It was amazing to watch his concentration as we described the simple pictures. Now at 22 I can't understand half his vocabulary!
I am full of butterflies vicariously anticipating your trip.
Oh V, this is a delicious shot for a bookworm like me! I LOVE it. I've seen so many books I want to read during today's Theme Day I feel overwhelmed!
The thing that really annoys me in the UK at the moment is the mania for celebrities to say "I've never read a book." Idiots. Books are a passion. I may be a visual person, but you cannot substitute how reading a good book makes you feel. Job well done.
Oh yes I see I do look like Virginia today, purple dress too, but not quite so jessica rabbit.
Your picture, indeed, is worth thousands of words.
So what books are you reading right now?
I have read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and have to say I think it is the next Da Vinci Code!
The photo once again is wonderful. I might just build a fire and saddle up with a good book right now.
Great advice and awesome photo.
When I was about 12 or so, my parents to leave my brother and I at the local public library during school holidays. And that was how I discovered Jackie Collins. :-)
Oh Ming! I might have known! I used to sneak and read "Peyton Place"- ha
Foody,
If I could get caught up with taking photographs and working this blog thing I might have time to read. I had a brand new copy of Cartier-Bresson's Paris photos that I was thrilled over. Lost it somewhere between here and Lake Martin!!
B,
I had to trade in that hot little purple dress for something less......TIGHT! HA How about a self portrait for all of us. I think I have you pegged but would love to see the "real thing"!
Great photo! So many books, so little time.
Heaven! I would be in heaven!
I don't know if I mentioned, but my MFA field study is a book-themed website: http://nashvillewordadventures.com
Great photo, Virginia, and message to match. One of the greatest gifts that "Clueless" & I gave our two sons was to read aloud to them. We still fondly recall reading Avi's Poppy series and The Bagthorpe saga, not to mention Judy Blume's Fudge series and John Christopher's White Mountain trilogy. Both young men are book lovers and readers today.
That's alot of books. Nice theme day post.
Oh thank you alll! I so appreciate your wonderful words and how books have touched your lives.! We need to make time to read and enjoy. And as our lives progress, we can touch our grandchildren as well.
Great choice for the theme day! I posted mine a little late, but it's up now. :)
Well, you know how I feel about reading, so I'll just add an AMEN!
Great photo!
