Dia de los Muertos Festival II

We're back at the Bare Hands Gallery for another helping of  the Day of the Dead Festival ( See yesterday's post for more).  The top photo features one of the MANY alters that were found all around the outside area.  The bottom photos show the narrow hallway that was literally decorated from ceiling to the floor with rememberances, photos, memorabilia, lights and glitz. We walked single file taking in as much as we could!   The floor was strewn with  fresh yellow and orange marigolds.  A challenge to photograph!

Well yes, I've changed that Banner Photo again!  This is where I am training for the "Paris Marathon" which begins in just 12 days!  As I walked this 3 mile stretch this morning,  with my IPOD playing some of my very favorite music,  I thought how I'd like to be able to show you just how beautiful this trail really is. The sky was so blue, the trees turning glorious colors and leaves sprinkling down all around, and the sunlight, oh the light!   After my walk, I went and fetched my camera and snapped a few shots of this gorgeous autumn day.  Enjoy!!

The Tune du Jour is "Angel"
(Sorry couldn't get Sarah McLachlan to sing this one)

PARIS COUNTDOWN....12 DAYS!

Yes, indeed: where are you staying in Paris. My friends and I stayed in a tiny apartment in Rue Galande in the Latin Quartier whereas my daughter had stayed in the Marais.

The walking track is deightful, Virginia. Would that I could begin my day that way ...

I have my toes crossed for tomorrow!

Your Parisian Marathon, ha ha! I wish I could have a stroll with you on this lane but just a few days and I'll do it le long de la Seine!
And I wish I could vote too, French people can't wait for the result!

Good morning, Virginia. This is the big day! Woohoo!
I love your walking path, I wish I was able to experience the changing of the leaves this far south. Keep up the regimen.
I look at the colors and objects in the Dia de los Muertos celebration and wonder how it all got there. It has to be there year round.

Eeyore said...

Soooo colorful! Lovely shots. There's so much in Birmingham that I've never experienced!

There was a "day of the dead" here too in Chandler but the word Festival was not used. Fabulous colors.

Hi! I'm here from Abe Lincoln's blog 'cause I notice you said "Here, Here" on his comments about the need for Change.

Yes...I'm in Blue...all blue today for the DEMOCRATIC party. I voted a couple of weeks ago. And as you say, "read my lips"....go vote!!

Indeed.
GObama!!!

Fabulous photos. I also love the one below in your Monday blog. Awesome photography.

And day of the living indeed and all that are, should vote!

Olivier & Julie, Hotel Mayfair across from Jardin des Tuileries!

JM, You're a "looker" on that stamp.:)

Alice, can you believe it? It won't be long now. Yes, a stroll along the Seine is a must!!

Web, let me get that dictionary out and translate. Will get back with you! HA

Festival of the Dead photos on Election Day is somehow oddly right. Mrs. Snapper and I voted weeks ago via mail-in ballot. We don't have a lot of confidence they'll actually get counted but hey, we did our duty as ex-pats.

Cool photos!

And yes, if you can vote, DO IT NOW!

Halcyon said...

I voted! My husband and I walked some nature trails this weekend. It's true, a picture never really does justice to what you see around you. We're leaving for China on Saturday. I'm excited too!

If I could vote, I would!

I love the look of your trail, gorgeous!

What a colorful festival, V! Oh, if only I was there ...

The top photo of your yesterday's post is SUPERB! One of your best.

BTW, it's all right, V. Every now and then we're all busy with a lot of things. I've been somewhat hectic too this week.

I love your choice of music and your series on the Dia de los Muertos.
I'm getting so excited for you about the Paris trip too.

Translation of webradio's comment:
Bientôt Paris ! Quelle chance Tu as, car l'hiver s'annonce sympa en France...

In paris soon! Lucky you because winter announces itself as rather nice...

(I've kept the translation pretty literal which doesn't sound very English but is the closest to the French form. "Sympa" is the short for "sympathique" which can mean nice, great, fun etc...)

Virginia said...

Thanks Nathalie. That was a case when the free translation site wasn't much help. I hope he's right about the weather. I'm trying not to stress over something I have no control over. I always say a rainy day in Paris is better than a sunny one just about anywhere else!

Eki, Thanks as always for your nice comments. I am back on track now. Will be by to see you later. I'm off to vote before it's too crowded at the polls.

What great shots! I love all the color. Your header photo is wonderful

Go vote, indeed!

Love the last photo. . . .

Paris in 12? I've got Caribbean in 25 to celebrate my 1/2-way point in the MFA (and the hubby's retirement ;-)).

The altar is very traditional. Goodjob!

marley said...

I can't get over how this is celebrated! The colours and sights are amazing.

Love the pathway, very good practice place. Thanks for going back to share it with us.

I'm watching CNN and staying up for the results! I hope we get to see history being made tonight :)

Virginia said...

Someone asked if all of this stays up throughout the year. My daughter says no. It is taken down and new memorabilia etc. is put up each year right before the festival. This is an art gallery the rest of the year.

Marley, I'm with you on that one. I am knitting a scarf for Paris and will get it done tonight in front of the TV for sure!!

Love the decor you shot here. Halloween is such a fun holiday for the kids. We had only 49 trick or treaters this year. A poor showing for a Friday.

Oh, yeah, vote early and vote often!

Marie-Noyale said...

LOve that last picture.
The song I had put yesterday was from the Frida Kahlo movie...
You have a very nice walk to train for the Paris marathon!!!
I am in front of the tv...It's going to be a long night.

Jane Hards Photography said...

These have to be the most colourful day of the dead I've seen, very Mardi
Gras.

I said this on DC'S blog but I have been genuinely humbled by the amount of people voting, especially the young. We have too much voter apathy here. For all our sakes Obama, and for mine too as Gary has nailed him. It's going to be a late night here.

Virginia said...

D.L. , Merci again for the fab French song you played pour moi on your post today. Wish you and Mrs. D.L. were going to be there when we are. Wouldn't we have fun!!!

marie-noyale, I am counting on finishing my scarf for Paris during the long drawn out coverage, but I don't want to stay up all night! Yikes!!

Ruby, Come back anytime!

Eeyore,
Stick with me and you'll see all kinds of things you didn't know were here. I welcome any ideas that you have. PLEASE!!! This monster gets sooo hungry and I have a hard time keeping him fed.

The last photo is amazing. The colors and objects are so fascinating.

I am soooo excited for you for your upcoming trip to Paris. How long are you going to be there?

King of New York Hacks said...

Great shots Virginia...got my first stranger posted on my site that I'll be sure to send to you!

Virginia said...

Ming and King....oh that's good....
I will be there a very short 8 days. And you know the travel gnaws some of that up.

King- You go! That's great.I can't wait to see your first "stranger". If I come to NYC, how can I arrange it for you to be my one and only "taxi dude"? We might need to chat about that.

A Frieda Kahlo picture on the altar is a scary enough start. We had a Dia de los Muertos thing in our Little Mexico but the altars were all in neighborhood cafes and groceries. It was hard to figure out where anything was. There was a parade of the altars late Sunday afternoon but, damn, we had symphony tickets. You pays your money and you picks your art.

Katie said...

Really interesting and colorful photos. Having recently seen the Frida show in SF, I really like the top photo.

I'm getting SO excited for you that your Paris trip is getting so close!!

Virginia said...

Oh S.T. you are so "high brow"! You do the symphony , I'll cover the dearly departed. HA
Watchin the TV about now? CHeers!!!!!!

Katie, Only you can relate to the fever pitch right now.

Mary Stebbins Taitt said...

Really fun, pretty and interesting photos and post, and YES I DID vote.

Glad to hear you're training for a marathon. YAY!

Virginia said...

MST, a tongue in cheek "marathon". If you want the real thing, check out my daughter Kathleen, who did NOT get her athletic ability from ME!
