New Old Friends

A trip back to Oak Hill Cemetery.  This time I am showing my friend Mary (from Cincinnati, OH) around town. We met on Virtual Tourist last winter.  What brought us together? Our mutual love of Paris.  We met in person Monday night when she flew in to spend a day or so  with me in anticipation of  my upcoming trip to Paris.  We did a whirlwind tour of Birmingham today. We took a long walk on my favorite walking trail, had barbeque at the Golden Rule in Irondale, shopped at the Pepper Place and made a special stop at Oak Hill Cemetery. She  just had  to see it.  I took this photo of these beautiful doors while we were there.  We finished the day off with not one but three stops for drinks, dinner and dessert  at some of my favorite places. What a grand time we have had together!

Gorgeous doors! Isn't it fun to meet an "old" friend? I just met one last weekend that I've known for 7 years. Met her on ivillage when I found out I was pregnant with my twin boys and found an online support group for women pregnant with twins! I've met a few of them in real life and now just met Lori who came down from Michigan. It is like meeting up with an old friend isn't it?!
Great picture of the 2 of you and it sounds like you gave her a great tour!

Sounds like a busy, but productive day. I enlarged the photo to get a better look and am interested in the scroll work and bottom panels. Looks like it needs a little refurbishing.

Virginia, I love your photos. They do look European. Hope your trip to Paris will exceed your expectations. I fell in love with France last year and now have only 32 more days until I get to fall in love with Paris.
I enjoy photos of doors, windows, and gates.

I going to burst with the envy, Paris! I like all the fading and rusting over the last few posts. Very Eurpoean, mainland not UK. Old and faded is far more beauitful than modern faceless quick build. Who took the lovely ladies show of you both? Nicley done portrait.

I am going to burst with anticipation if i don't hurry up and get on that plane!

Peter, I am afraid I have added just a few more tiny things to my wish list. I can see you cringing!HA

Eki, Yes we did "paint the town"! A lot of talking and laughing went on, I can assure you. I was sad to put her on the plane this morning.

Can we tawlk???
Ya'll can't even begin to imagine how special it is to be hosted by The Empress of Birmingham: fresh flowers & a welcoming gift in my chicly decorated room; a 1st night Happy Hour with Proseco, French fromage & baggettes; driving me all over town to see the major sites - while we shared our mutual love of Paris and the good life.
She is the "hostess with the mostess" - an enthusiastic ambassador for the Magic City of Birmingham. I so appreciated that she made time for me 4 days before her departure - and YES, I was planning to sneak into Paris for a day to join up with them, but my employer had other plans. We're thinking about a trip to NYC together - she'll keep you posted!
For all of you that will have the pleasure of meeting her in France, I've got her all warmed up for the experience - laissez les bonnes temps roulez !!!
xx,
M
PS-that photo does NOT do Virginia justice- she's a babe!

Beautiful capture of the door. I see many doors that I want to photograph in NYC but just dont think they will juxtapose the way you see them live. I'm gutless, I know. Also, in Paris there are many strange people...Photo them !!!

Audience, here is what she left out:

Police Officer to Virginia: Young lady, your eyes are a little bloodshot and you were weaving down the road. How much have you had to drink tonight?

Virginia to Police Officer: (hic) Well, ociffer, YOUR eyes look a little glazed! How many trips have you made through the drive-through at the Krispy Kreme so far this shift?

(Sound of handcuffs clinking shut...)

Louis, Hush your mouth! Well I never heard such nonsense! HA

PS I think I'll have another donut if you don't mind... with MILK!
