There's a feel of reflective quietness about the scene in the top photo that befits the place ... YOu captured the essence of the place very well, V. It's both your photographic eye and mind's eye's work at their best. I like it.

As for the bottom picture, I love the design and angle from which you aimed it. Beautiful!

By the way, I may be as anxious as you about your Paris adventure/trip. Will you be posting photos from/about Paris? It would be lovely to see Paris from a American Paris aficionado like you... ^_^

I'm with Eki, V. Post from Paris! But I'm already dreading all your beautiful shots from there. I'm still trying to figure out how I can frame all of your other shots from your last visit.

Love these two photos today. The compositions are so artful and beautiful, and all that texture and contrast... just perfect.

I suspect those cemetery steps will be there long after the staircase is in the dump. It is funny or strange how things work out in the end.

The first time I was in Paris I visited Pere La Chaise (Edith). This last time I visited Montparness Cemetery (Simone). Totally different from each other but totally mesmerising.

See what you can do with the stairs going down from the pyramid in The Louvre.

Hello Virginia !
Nice photos, but I prefer the first one...

The cemetery steps photo is wonderful.

It reminds me of my family's plot in Blount county. Set next to a white clapboard church with stones dating from the 1830's, that place roots me to Alabama in a profound way.

Juxtaposed to the vivid fall leaves and the change of seasons, I am humbled.

Thank you for posting it.

It makes my day!

Excellent step perspective!

9 days to go, our anxiety is high!

I love the feel of the stone steps!

I love both of them. The sepia color in the first photo adds to the atmosphere. And the b&w in the second brings out the beauty of the architecture. Great shots!

The top photo looks like steps leading to a ruined altar. It could be Catholic in Ireland or Aztec in Mexico. The bottom one is better that the average spiral staircase shot because it is irregular, which adds interest.

In a comment on my Thursday Arch photo yesterday, PJ says I should buy both of you lunch. Maybe a gift certificate for someplace on the Boulevard St.-Michel or in the Marais. Pourqoi non? She also suggested I start a separate St. Louis Arch photoblog, which is a terrific idea. I'm on it.

The second one is it the stairs where you are training thinking in Montmartre? ;-))
The first photo makes a strong impression, just beautiful.

beautiful stairs both even if I prefer the second one... very architectural shot.

What a great pair of shots, so similar and so different. I love the texture on the first, but the second one is very intriguing.

That cemetery looks like it is straight out of a dream sequence in a movie.
Great stuff.

S,T, Pourqoi non indeed! I like the sounds of that gift certificate in Paree. I just don't know WHY you would be buying the two fo us lunch. Oh well, I'll just say, "Merci beaucoup monsieur !
Arch Blog...now you WILL be obsessive compulsive. Carolyn will have to move out. Lordy!

Alice, When I think of the steps in Montmartre, I could cry. I can do some walking but oh the steps get me.

Eki,
I have been called a lot of things but an aficionado is not one! Merci!!! :) THere will be Paris photos ad nauseum , I just don't know about getting any up while I'm there.

Today's post with little or no text was to get you use to that. When I sit down to create 8 posts, it will be very short and sweet. I am sure you all can use the break!!!

May be I should not say this.. But I am enjoying the pictures WITH the very nice tune of the day, AND a glass of red wine in my hand...
It's Friday night,a little treat, and you are absolutely right sometimes it is nice just to enjoy, without too much words.
I enjoy both of your pictures.
Have a good week end.

I had to photograph the library stairs today for one of their leaflets. Not half as majestic as these only one floor. The wash of subtle colour in the top shot suits the image perfectly. Note these images would not work so well if you interchanged the colours. Job well done.

Spiral staircases are not easy to photo. Good Job!!

Love the photo of the steps. Looks like it could've been made in Paris. Ha!

I love both these photos, particularly the steps.
You should take the funiculaire up to sacre coeur - save yourself the legwork!
