It's Nuts Around Here

Well it is!  With a yard full of trees,  the squirrels have lost their ever loving minds.  All day and night the nuts are hitting the roof, sounding like they're up there throwing bricks.  Oh, and the pinecone buffet is causing some kind of litter on the patio.  There are nuts on the front porch that I am sure they have placed carefully so I'll  slip and "buy the farm" some morning soon when I go out to get the paper.  Abe my friend, I know this is all very upsetting for you, and if I could round em all up and ship them to Ohio, you would have more mouths to feed than you could shake a stick at.  For those of you looking for a  more positive perspective on squirrels may I suggest Brookville Daily Photo.

The Tune du Jour is appropriately.... "Goin Out of My Head" by Little Anthony and the Imperials.  A real favorite of mine.  Good times remembered.

They are wonderful to look at but when there are too many...there are too many!!

Maybe I'll be first today - instead of last like yesterday. Oh my - you really think those sweet little innocents are out to get you huh? Could be - they're pretty smart you know. Too bad you can't just ship them off to a wonderful "new" home with Abe! Love the pic - it IS worth a 1,000 words.

belle profondeur de champs (PDC). la lumière est superbe sur cette photo. Dans mon village natal, qui dit noix, dit un superbe gâteau aux noix ;o)

And I thought you would be saying to us, "Nuts to you!" 6^) I'm glad to see you have an emergency food source right at hand, in case of famine.

Hello Virginia !
Nice photo...
I have "nuts' trees" in my garden, but this years, there are no nuts in the trees... Sniff, because I love nuts (and squirrels... Chutt).

Le tube du jour est agréable aussi...

Squirrels are messy eaters. Oh. If your guests wander over to to see my Squirrel and Cat they will need to click on the link in the first sentence in today's post.

As for any more squirrels, we have had as many as 12 at one time and they tend to come from blocks away. My squirrels or those I feed, are of all squirrel colors with one or two showing somebody messed around with a red squirrel and now we have some red-colored squirrels here from time to time.

If you have any of those black-as-coal squirrels I will take a couple, married of course, without children.

You got nuts -- I got acorns. The giant oak above our house drops at least one every few minutes. South Pasadena squirrels are well fed, too.

Virginia,
You left a comment yesterday on the Monte Carlo Daily Photo asking to see photos of the angel-fluted champagne glasses from France that I described. I have therefore posted three photos of them on my site today. I hope you enjoy them.

Virginia said...

For all of you above, I apologize for my photo. I got the sizing wrong and you only saw half of it. Guess you thought I was a nut!

Very funny post and tune du jour to go with! :-)
To know these small details of someone else's daily life is fascinating! There are no squirrels around here, so that is something that would never cross my mind...
That's why blogging is so cool! Thanks, Virginia!

Squirrels here in France are quite rare and always red, not grey as they are in USA. In my garden, all the nuts on the ground have a little hole in their shell, I think mice are more common!
I can see the whole photo but since several days, I can't hear any music, not only here but on every blog...And I must click many times on each links before they work...My computer must be angry, don't know why :-(

We've got several walnut trees around the house (very messy trees) and the squirrels love them. The boys call our squirrels the "Evil Squirrels" because we are convinced they are up high in the trees throwing walnuts at us as we come outside!
We do enjoy watching them though, evil or not :)

Janet said...

I'll take those, crack 'em, and eat 'em! We love walnuts, and they aren't so easy to find.

Autumn harvest is bountiful with produce of all kinds. But be careful, they will trip you up. ;) Wow, imagine mowing the lawn with these projectiles shooting out from under the mower, ouch!

The squirrels around my house are very thin because I don't have any nut trees! They do get into my bird feeder though and it annoys me to no end.

catching up on your posts for the past few days - so appropriate today, my schedule's been nuts too.
So excited for you about the Paris trip, love the cut glass prism photo. It takes a good eye to see how a scene can be so different between night and day, the waterfall is spun gold.

I commented on Crittoria's blog that I thought squirrels are aliens sent to invade our planet and slowly drive us insane. I think they're merciless in the pursuit of world domination. I have noticed that some places, despite having lots of trees and nuts don't have squirrels...

Virginia said...

PJ,
Well where is that place, heaven?????d

Tanya, "Evil Squirrels" works for me!

Oh Alice, eeeeek mice! I put them right up there with squirrels

Oh and Laurie, I have a plethora of acorns. These nuts pictured today were snapped at a nearby park.
My granddaughters like to gather the acorns and draw faces on them.

Abe, I appreciate the fact that you continue to drop by and leave comments knowing that I don't share your love for the fluffy tailed little boogers.

Janet Kincaid said...

VJ, you must learn to embrace their fluffy fluffiness, their spritely spriteliness, and their cache-worthy caching. :-)

What you don't send Abe's way, send my way. They crack me up.

Beautiful closeup! And I read somewhere that women are better at multitasking than men so maybe there's hope ;)

Cheers!

Talking of squirrels you must check this blog for squirrels.

Now it works! :-)))
Nice new photo on your profile.

Hey, a new profile portrait. I'm thinking of changing mine too. How about Daffy Duck?

Nuts? I'm probably the only blogger here who is deranged with enough paranoid tendencies to read anything subliminal into this shot. But I do and I'm squirming a bit.

Now I suppose I'm supposed to go out and find some nuts in Vancouver. Gawd, it never ends.

Jane Hards Photography said...

If you do round them could you send them here. We don't have squirrels or foxes on the island, and I do miss them. Hoping the nuts in the Whitehouse are rounded up soon, but please don't send those ones here.I've had my fill of NutBush city limits. Lovely close up and I see a new Virginia is gracing our screens so gracefully too.

I can't take Wayne and B back to back. Ok, you've make me howl the both of you. Wayne, don't think I didn't reword this post more than once and you still found it. B, your fair island would be overrun in no time. Do not wish for a boatload of these critters ( or our nutcases) !! About the photo. I should have gone for clip art from the beginning cause I am so sick of looking at myself, I had to have a change . Daffy Duck would have been perfect for moi! B., maybe Gary could do a caricature to replace it?

I used to love fall when I was a little and used to collect bags full of these nuts! They usually ended up stowed away in the garage, and were rediscovered in the Spring. I can just imagine the squirrels are overjoyed at the bounty!

Now, Virginia, I am surprised that a woman of refinement like yourself would present us with such a visual double entendre (and, no, I can't say that in Japanese). Having made that point, the formal composition as a simple still life, the round, straight and pointed shapes, the warm tones, just feels good to look at.

Virginia said...

Only a lawyer could dodge that bullet.

Wayne said...

I used to labour under this misapprehension too ST. Sad to say, just because a body hails from Dixie and says y'all doesn't automatically imbue them with refinement.

I don't blame you. It's a natural mistake. And if I lived in St. Louis instead of Vancouver I wouldn't even be writing this. I have the relative safety of an extra couple of thousand miles.

Virginia said...

Well bless your sweet hearts. My Momma always said, " If you can't say something nice, don't say it at all."
So I will just hush my mouth.... for now!"

The world would be better off if we all at more nuts. I regularly eat unsalted pumpkin seeds, walnuts, and almonds.

Robert,
Lived in Ft. Lauderdale in the mid 70's. The Everglades were such an interesting ecosystem for our family to learn about and enjoy. Thanks for your comments! And as for me.... I am most certainly NUTS!

Reminds me of pecans falling on the roof of my apartment in Louisiana. :-)

Louis la Vache said...

It had never occurred to "Louis" until he read this post that a blessing of being 'cliff dwellers' as he et Mme la Vache are is that they don't have to deal with squirrels in the yard! Much nicer to see them scampering around the trees a few yards away at the park on Albany Hill.

I think my nutbush city limits went all they way to the Whitehouse. The net has been down all day.

Well, despite my reasonably severe nut allergy, I do like this image!
