Two THINGS CHALLENGE: Solid/Pattern

You frequent visitors will probably remember that we had a plethora of celebrations around here last week. My Laura Kate and Davis both turned four (born a day apart - YES!  to different moms). This week's Two Things Challenge is Solid/Pattern. While the rowdy little guys were jumping their brains out on the "Pirate Jumpy Jump", all the girls decided to turn the brick sidewalk into a work of art. Each SOLID colored brick became a gorgeous PATTERN!  Bottom photo shows Davis eagerly anticipating getting to make a wish and blow out the candles,  so he can dive into that pirate cake.

Click here to see the creative folks participating in TWO THINGS CHALLENGE!  What a fabulous group of outside the box thinkers they are. Bravo!

The Tune du Jour is "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Isreal Kamakawiwo.  I love this medley!!

Virginia, I look forward to your post every day. They are always wonderful AND I love the music you select with them. Loved Michael's Nocturne yesteryday and Iz is one of my VERY favorites. I also love his Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. On top of that you have the most adorable grandchildren but I am wondreing what's going on in the life of the yarn loving Kittykins!

What a creative interpretation, Miss V! I love your composition -- as usual -- in both these wonderful shots. The bricks look so great with that color, don't they? And your little cutie is a work of art himself. That's a perfect capture of the moment.

All your grandchildren look absolutely gorgeous and you have capture the sweetest moments, from what I've seen. Fantastic work, Virginia!
Also love the water falling on previous post 1st photo and the funny 'full moon' face on the wall. Very good!

Great job on 2TC. I love all the colors and textures in the picture. :o)

Thank you everyone! I was partial to these photos today myself.

Judy, thanks for asking about Kittykins. Since I posted her mug shot, she has tried to walk the straight and narrow. The mauled baby cap is in the Witness Protection Program and coming along nicely.

Really fantastic shot. I was immediately drawn to it on the portal. And yes, that version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is wonderful.

Love those bricks. Hope they stayed colored for a while. Here they wouldn't have--raining! And what a cute kid, waiting for his cake, yo-ho-ho!

If you put that piece of sidewalk in a gallery in lower Manhattan, someone would surely buy it. A talented girl! I hope her creativity continues to flower.

Virginia said...

Oops just realized when I fiddled with the sizing, it cut off part of the photo. It's better now.

S.T., you tell me that but you never come across with the name of said gallery and the big bucks you swear I'll get. For the right amount of cash, I will dig up my daughter's sidewalk!

My kids were used to do the same on our brick drive but I've forgotten how nice it could be...Thank you for this memory.
The angle you took the second photo is just, wow, touching! A grandmother or mother 's shot, not any doubt (and the pirate's cake too, I'm sure)

I just love your photos and your blog! I look forward to visiting everyday. Love the chalk colors on the bricks. The girls did well!

I would quite happily sit and colour those bricks in. Kids should be given cameras, as they are so creative with colour. That's what you captured in the first. As for the second, that's such an adorable image. The eyes and that hint of a smile of anticipation.
You can't fake these kind of images of natural wonderment.

I love your grandson eyeing his candles. Guess he is figuring out how to blow them all out.

About the steeples on my blog, I took the picture at ground level and cropped the photo. Glad you are getting traffic from my site!

It always amazes me when I see the enthuciasm in children over everything.

I guess the phrase, discovering the world through my children's eyes must be true.

We can't wait to grow up and then we spend the rest of our lives trying to recapture the innocence of children. This is scrumptious and Happy Birthday to Davis!

Virginia, Thank you for the Kittykins update! I had visions of her doing hard time on the rock pile or chain gang at Al'cat'raz. Glad to hear too that the cap is coming along - would love it if you would share it with us when finished. Wouldn't want to spoil the surprise though.

Judy, my daughter is a beginning knitter so the setback was ....well, a setback! I think she is back on track and Kittykins is rather oblivious to the broohaha she caused!HA I will definitely show off the cap if and when it's done. Thank you so much for visiting. It means a lot to have faithful followers.

Kris, a "jumpy jump" (Davis named them back when he was terrified of them) is one of those big blow up things where the kids get in and bounce around. You are those where you live??

Kris McCracken said...

Yes Virginia (now where have I heard that before?), we call them bouncy castles here n Australia. I think that I like "Jumpy jump" better!

Heny is a fan.

I like the colors those children chose to color the bricks, and the angle from which you chose to photograph this intesting moment. Beautiful, V.

Virginia, although I understand the two things concept, in this particular instance I think your second shot should have been granted first place and undivided attention. That smile and look from the corner of the eye are just irresistible! Another of your wonderful children portraits !!!

I love the brick photo! Kids are so naturally gifted as artists aren't they? Where does that go?

Rob said...
