Graphic Details

An Upper Lobby window of Regions Bank , downtown Birmingham.  Not my usual fare, but I try to step out of my prissy French box every so often.  I like the starkness and strong black geometric image.  I didn't have to desaturate this one, a natural monotone. A tip of the hat to Mondrian, oui?

BIG BLOG NEWS... Our friend Bob Crowe over at St. Louis Daily Photo has added a new blog, Gateway.  Now you don't have to wait till Thursday to see his excellent interpretations of St. Louis' famous Arch!  Bravo Bob!!!

great shot - looks like a still from a crime/detective movie set in B&W. (BTW I wish you a very relaxing jet plane ride to Paris & not one on Bibi's Belgrade Airshow fighter jet :)

Virginia, You always amaze me. Never know what to expect and it's always a surprsie. Great pic! Love the new header too - or did I miss it yesterday? Two days, two days, JUST TWO DAYS........

Hope you don't fly with Air France...on strike till Monday. Again.

I agree with Wayne. "Prissy" isn't quite the word I would use. We need an adjective that combines hearty down-to-earth humor with a love of elegance and luxury. I'll bet the French have a word for it. Let us know what it is as soon as you find out. 8^)

Have a wonderful trip! And I don't think your photos are prissy, either !

Before I read the text I heard the word Mondrian in my head. It's another classy stark shot and see no photoshop, natural is best. It seeps through your work that you have painted(should still paint!)as I apply an artist to each image I see. Good influences too.

So the Paris collection, Bresson mono, shadows, bleak, pathos. Go one you know you want to.

Are you planning to blog while over there?

Alice,
For once I am thankful to be on American rather than Air France. Maybe I could change my flight home and get delayed!! Great idea!!

B.,
I found my Cartier Bresson book of Paris photos. I think I will take it along for inspiration on the long flight!

Wayne,
Don't make me use one of those 9 words I sent you!

Web and Bergson,
Merci for your kind welcome. Wish I could meet both of you while I'm there.

Jill,
Weather prayers are needed. I am trying not to look. I have a cute raspberry colored umbrella just in case.

E. The French have a word for everything, I just rarely know what that word is. Now don't go spilling the beans about our rowdy conversation on PDP! I will keep my eyes open for you and Petrea just in case. You never know. I've not been in one of those before but there's a first time for everything. :)

Thanks everyone for your bon voyage wishes. I will be in touch. My 8 posts are all done and ready for you starting Monday.

Sacre bleu - I am so relieved that you aren't on AF...and don't fret the weather. Paris is lovely when wet - and makes for more interesting photos.
Still basking from my visit with you, Soon, I'll get you to The Queen City so that I can reciprocate!

Love the Mondrian look of the photo.. Hope your trip to Paris is all that you wish and the weather is lovely.

I'm flying Air France in 30 days... please, please, don't let them go back on strike until I get there.. I don't cared if they strike when it's time to come home.. I think being stranded in Paris would not be the worst thing to ever happen to me.

Virginia said...

Karen, my thoughts exactly. Leave me there, I don't care!!! I'll take good notes.

Mar, WHY didn't we pack when you were here? Now I am in a mess, can't make up my mind, and this suitcase has gotta go. I've got to find a larger one ASAP! Yikes!

B,
no bleak and pathos pour moi en Paris. Just fun and happy photos!

Marie,
Will we see you there? Hope so.

No I'm NOT packed yet. I am still picking up last minute things and I have a photography show to attend tonight , that I wouldn't miss for the world. It'll get done I promise! I just bought another memory card today!!! That gives me 5GB;s now. SURELY that's enough. I must put the camera down so I can enjoy the marvelous company and sights, right???

DL, Thank you again for the wonderful Parisian song for me on your blog today. Merci mon ami!

Virginia, the subway shot was indeed taken with a point-and-shoot, the Canon G9. I just set the aperture speed to a slower time (can't remember exactly since I'm still trying to figure out the new camera) and voila, ghostly train image. :-)

BTW, love the photo. Simple lines and great lighting are always a good choice.

Virginia said...

Therese,
Absolutely I will try to do just that. Merci!'V
