The Shades Valley Optimist Club has been selling trees the old fashioned way, for as long as I can remember. They share space with Shades Cahaba Elementary School on Hollywood Blvd. in Homewood. When I taught there, I loved taking my students to the lot to estimate how many trees they had and to photograph them for their Christmas cards to their families. The SV Optimist are generous with their support of children in this community. This is a worthwhile way to start your holiday season.
Now the question: Is the lot half full or half empty??

The old fasioned white bulbs strung around the trees makes this a classic scene for me. Where's the pathetic looking Charlie Brown Christmas tree with most of its needles on the ground? Every classic lot has one! From the looks of it, this lot is definitely half full.
I returned from a visit to Birmingham last evening. It was my birthday and my daughters treated me to a trip to the Summit and the spa there. Birmingham is a special place.
This is the first time in my life that I've lived somewhere where there's no Christmas tree lots to be seen!!! I've heard that they will be if not now, selling them in the Von's parking lot, but no lots!!! Guess the freezing temps up here curtail that entrepreneurial activity!!!
I dunno about half-full or half-empty. But let me ask you: If a Xmas tree falls in a Xmas tree lot in the middle of the night and there's no one around, does it make a sound?
We haven't bought a "real" tree in years...maybe we're missing something?
Oh my, Virg, I missed a lot this weekend .. one better than the next .. I in love with the header shot .. in love
LOVE that banner image.
where are the consumers?
You've got such nice light here, with a softness that suggests a winter mist. When I was a kid, we always got our tree from suspicious characters who would cluster around their inventory and 55 gallon drums full of blazing firewood under an elevated highway on the west side of Manhattan.
Bob,
I so love that my dear blog friends share their memories here. As you and I have shared, our paths have met through our blogs, but what a mixed bag we are! Ha. We collide from such worlds apart. I just love getting to learn more about the Lou and YOU! :)

I am guessing half full, but if it is half empty, there should still be half as many trees as there were when it was full!
