I had the pleasure of visiting one of B'ham's newest art galleries last night. Avondale Bricks Gallery not only has a fitting tribute to the late Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth, but also a fine collection of Cuban art. Stephen Humphreys, publisher of
Birmingham Weekly and gallery owner is sharing art by eight Cuban artists that he has met over the past 15 years as a frequent visitor to Cuba. His photographs are a natural addition to the exhibit as well. Greeting you at the door are the colorful totem inspired sculptures by local artist Dick Jemison. Today, one of his sculptures with a few of Stephen's photographs in the background.

Looks really cool Virginia.
Lovely and colourful!
and so very red ... cheerful ..
A very colorful piece and I'm sure there's more meaning in it...Miami has become mainly Cuban, I think, and Cuban influences are everywhere these days. Very interesting!
I have a friend who goes to Cuba regularly and collects Cuban art as well...her living room looks like a gallery!!!
Love the colors and would love to visit Cuba, but doubt if I'll ever get there. Cute guy in the photo...
Really nice exhibition!
How was he able to visit Cuba and make purchases, in light of the U.S. embargo?
Looks like a very interesting place!
So much energy and vibrance. Can you hear the mambo starting up?
Very international and cool. I like it.
I would love to visit this place! This colourful wooden sculpture is just great. Cuba has fantastic artists and writers. Great composition, V.
