With a heavy heart, we bid farewell to our dear blog friend Karin Bugge. Her blog Altadena Hiker, was one of the fist blogs I followed way back in 2008. In 2010, my blog reader Judy Dunn and husband Dave flew me to Los Angeles so I could meet my Pasadena, South Pasadena, Altadena and Palo Alto blog friends in person. Karin was a talented writer and animal lover and I loved her dearly.

Frank Flemming 1940-2018
Birmingham artist Frank Fleming passed away yesterday. I was privileged to know him as a neighbor back in the 90. He would walk up and down Saulter Road in his shorts and floppy hat, and give me a wave. In 2010, I spent some time with him, and he graciously allowed me to photograph his studio, housed in his home. He was a humble, kind and gentle man. He will be sorely missed but his magical creatures located all over this city will always be a reminder of his creative spirit.

Parisian
Found on an alley in downtown Birmingham, the remains of our iconic department store. My mom and I shopped there when I was growing up and in later life, I worked at their Vestavia store for several years. Now it makes me smile as it's taken on another meaning, my love for all things Parisian!

Welcome Senator and Mrs. Jones!
On Friday, the STAIR students and tutors at Oliver Elementary welcomed some very special guests. Senator and Mrs. Doug Jones came for a visit to see just how much these second graders in the STAIR of Birmingham program were learning. They greeted each and every student and tutor, then they shared the reading of Dr. Seuss' Oh The Places You Will Go. It was a great day for all of us!
