Remembering - The RIderless Horse

For all the pomp and circumstance and flag waving of the Veterans' Day Parade, this riderless horse is poignant reminder of those that have given their lives for our freedom.

Returning the Salute

I've been blogging here for over three years. Often I cover events over and over, hoping to find a new focus.  This was my third Veteran's Day Parade, and while it's a wonderful event for my city, I wondered if I could capture anything different this year.  As luck would have it, I met up with a Viet Nam veteran that I remembered from last year ( on the left).  We reconnected and as we stood near each other during the parade,  I was able to watch as the passing servicemen, young and old, give him a salute.  The special moment I was looking for.

Hail and Farewell

As the Veteran's Day Parade ended yesterday, I have no idea why I turned my camera straight into the afternoon sun and took this shot.  I'm glad I did.

Veterans' Day II - The Boy Scouts

The Boy Scouts Of America were well represented in the Thursday's Veterans' Day Parade . I just had to share more than just one photo today.

The Nation's Oldest Veteran's Day Parade- Birmingham, Alabama

1 Lt. Andrew Tsimpides
Alabama's Last Living Horse Soldier
U.S. Cavalry Mounted, 1936

What a day.  I have so many images from Birmingham's Veterans' Day Parade, the oldest in the country.  I struggled with what to share as so many touched my heart.  It think this one says it all.  I will post more in the days to come.

Left, Right, Left.....

Today a few more photos from Birmingham's Veterans' Day Parade. My "Yankee" friend Daryl, who blogs from way up there in NYC, especially liked these two photographs when I shared them with her. Here you go D!

Honoring Our Heroes

Yesterday after my museum shift, I just walked down to 19th Street and waited for the Veterans' Day Parade to begin. Our parade is known as the oldest and largest Veterans' Day Parade . A lot of great flag waving and cheering for our heroes past and present. Today a few of our heroes past. There will be more photos to come.
