Star Magnolia

The whimsical, carefree cousin to the our more sedate southern magnolias. This one blooms in early spring before it's leaves open. I love it.

he Star Magnolias were bursting open at Aldridge Gardens today. I think it might be a bit early, but we really haven't had any prolonged cold weather at all here in Birmingham this winter. I love these floppy petaled blooms back lit by the afternoon sun.

How fortunate I am to live here in the Deep South where spring comes calling here when most of the country is still in the throws of winter.  I realize this might appear to be bragging a bit,  but I hope that instead  it brings the promise of spring to you in your corner of the world.
