October Theme Day - CONTRAST

Today is October Theme Day for City Daily Photobloggers around the world. CONTRAST is our theme. Well try as I might, I couldn't find a Birmingham photo to top this one. As many of you know, I spent most of the summer in France. Today's theme just begged for a trip back to Paris. In my opinion, nowhere is the contrast of old and new more beautfully illustrated than right here at la Louvre. Built in the 12th Century, the former Palais du Louvre now overlooks I.M.Pei's Pyramide. A controversial pairing that one either loves or hates. When I first visited Paris, I wasn't sure how I would feel when I saw it. Perhaps what won my heart was seeing it at night. Oh my, it's exquisite... it's just magical. My very, very favorite place for night photographs in Paris. I've photographed it twice, and I can hardly wait for another photo opportunity.

There will be some very creative interpretations of our theme today around the world.

Hurrah, I am first to compliment you on this superb photo of Pei's Pyramid and the Louvre. I especially like the way you caught the other upside-down triangle.

Bien fait!

Well ... how perfect is this! The subject of course couldn't be better with the old and the new but the way you've captured it is superb with the reflections. That's some photo, Virginia! Super soft colours, reflections, light, dark. It's all here.

OK this isn't Birmingham, Alabama, but I can imagine it was hard to resist.

Your framing is what makes the shot exceptional. I like that the photo stops exactly at the top of the pyramid and at the corner of the water basin, emphasizing the triangular effect on both sides. Simply MAGICAL.

Perfect framing and wonderful night presentation of a pyramid (which I loved from the very beginning)! But, you are right, it's even nicer during the night!

AAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWRRRRRRRRRRRRRRG. That is the sound of my jaw dropping. I saw your comment on Eric's PDP and I, for one, am not kicking you out. (Can one be kicked in?) Oh, V, this just beats all.

That's a pretty good illustration of the theme, in architecture as well as lighting. I still find Pei's pyramid a bit jarring against the old palace walls, although I've been by many times.

This one just gets better and better everytime I look at it. In thumbnail mode on CDP, I just thought "oh come on, this isn't Alabama". But having seen it in full size, I'm glad you made the virtual trip back to Paris for this one. Unusual, great composition.

Gorgeous shot! And the contrast of black and gold. I know where this is; oh, wait, this wasn't part of a quiz.

Wow, V, this is an amazing shot! Better than any of mine I think. Did you take it the night we went out, or on one of your other ventures?

My favorite place at night, too, but I have only been there during the day so far.
Walking my legs off and only partially adjusted to time/sleep change but so happy to be here. One of these times we must coordinate and be here at the same time.
I love the contrast of the old and new. It works.
