September Theme Day - BIG

DREAM BIG!

May I just say once again, how many doors Birmingham Alabama Daily Photo has opened for me? Today's post is another example of how fortunate I am to be able to go out into my community and photograph and write about the wonderful things taking place all over this city.

Saturday I was invited to visit Willow Woods Community Center in Birmingham's Woodlawn neighborhood. It was parent orientation for an exciting new program. Thanks to Church of the Highland's Dream Center outreach program, some mighty excited little girls are going to be taking ballet lessons for the very first time. Saturday the Briarwood Presbyterian's Exaltation company performed for the future ballerinas and their families. It was thrilling to watch. Their enthusiastic ballet instructor, Adair Whetstone, happens to be a dear friend, and she has offered to let me come back to class and take some more photographs as these young girls begin to live out their dreams. Lucky girls, lucky parents, lucky me!

Today, City Daily Photo Bloggers all around the world are putting their unique spin on this BIG theme.

Note: As this blog has expanded my circle of friends around the world , it has increased my personal awareness of how natural disasters ( not to mention political ones) affect them. Right now our friends in California are living through the nightmare of devastating wildfires. We worry for them, their neighbors and the heroes that fight the fires around the clock.

Big fires too. Positive thoughts go to all concerned Californians.

You've done it again, V. with an incomprable, touching photo for TD.
Your portraits are a marvellous addition to CDP.
I am really worried also about the people living near the foothills. We were so very fortunate that the local fire in Palos Verdes was put out quickly.

Virginia I love your interpretation of today's theme. Your photo is just perfect, demonstrating both talent and sensitivity.

Lucky girls, lucky you, lucky US that we can follow you and them into this wonderful adventure.

V, Oh this is wonderful! Can't wait to see more as we are lucky enough to have you take us along on this fun time for them.

I am watching the fires from the west side of town. I've never seen anything like the smoke we've seen from here. Unbelievable! I am keeping all your faithful blogger friends in my prayers as well as my personal friends there too and all others.

Love the lateral thinking, not to mention the delicate soft focus o of the background allowing the subject to reamain so blod. Yadda Yadaa. Almost in danger of showing my real photographer colours there.

I have asked the Manx faires to take sour rain to California. There needs are indeed so much greater than ours.

Very very nice black and white picture. It has a lot in it and is perfect for the Big theme.

Big dreams. Absolutely. Really lovely take on the theme. You are so right about our blogs opening doors and particularly I'd say when you live in a 'foreign' country. I find I'm getting accepted, welcomed in my village - something I think might have been more difficult without people knowing I'm the photographer/blogger/dog lady!

Wow, what a beautiful post! Being Adair's aunt, I have a special sentiment about this program---and Adair! All I can say is that I hope and pray that this program will reach many young children that would otherwise not have an opportunity to pursue their talents and dreams in such a kind and caring atmosphere.

how very exciting - I can remember loving ballerinas and so wanted to learn how to dance at that age - what a beautiful mission.

I love your interpretation of the theme and I love the event and the church's gift even more! Bless them.

You asked about the October theme — vote's still ongoing. And it's tight, so you might want to say your two cents (we get two votes each) here :)

Great post, V! It's wonderful when young people get a chance to dream and work on that dream!

I totally agree, Virginia. Having a blog has motivated to get up and out the door to see another corner of my city. The momentum, which started off small (I just wanted to show my sister-n-law shot of LA) has taken on a life of its on. And now its hard to stop.
