Fondly referred to as "The Old Mill", this private home in Mountain Brook started out as a tearoom and clubhouse for social functions back in the day. Today, it still draws a lot of admirers. Since I pass it each day on my walk, I decided to finally stop and take a few photos!

Oh Virginia - I love this. First - it's a beautiful picture - I can hear the water running by and the wheel turning and second - when I was a kid and we lived for a time in New York we'd visit Connecticut and go to eat at a restaurant located by a mill on a river like this. You've brought back wonderful memories for me. Merci!!
Agreed, it is a gorgeous feast for the eye and for the ear. Me being me: I can see a crop in there that contains the rock wall, the metal shape in the middle of the wheel, the wooden spoke and rim plus the roofing tiles ... ooo ooo ooo ... quite a feast.
Was this really an old mill to begin with, or created old-fashioned style? In either case, it's a lovely place, and an equally enticing photo.
I've been to a Blogger Bash, and I didn't even know...!
Lovely photo and it must be a delightful place to walk. I can almost smell the clear air and hear the water under the bridge. Beautiful
This is so New Englandish or Midwestern, are you sure it is in Alabama?
I'm there for a blogger bash!
I love this little old mill. Not something I would expect to see in B'ham.
Oh this place is so photogenic ... there's a similar looking old mill house in New Preston, CT (which is all of one 'street' long) that friends considered buying/renovating til they found out there was no sewage permitted ...
Who knew B'ham was so idyllic?
it is a beautiful place
Someone actually gets to live here? Imagine starting the day with all this beauty.
I replied - anyway - the carving school is on the corner of Highland and 20th (Southside). It is on the second floor (above Dave's)
Did you wait for the seven dwarfs to come out!!!
Cute and lovely.
Lovely, lovely indeed but knowing you, you must have been dreaming about planting lots of red flowers to make it more alive... lol
I'm amazed it's a private home. It's lovely.
It looks a lovely place.
I'm liking the Blog Word A Day feature :)
You pass this every day and haven't taken a photo of it yet? Sheesh! This is absolutely gorgeous...
Merci beaucoup!
Jacob,
Try walking about 3-4 miles with a camera that weighs a few pounds around your neck! I had to finish my walk and drive to this scenic spot. I'm glad I did!
