tulip trees! Spring has arrived in Birmingham, and my neighborhood is just so beautiful. Have a look at this tulip tree that I shot from my car window. We've had some severe weather lately, so these lovely blooms are falling fast.
Nature cannot be beaten...the colours on the petals are truly breathtaking. I suppose I should take a trip down South to see all these beautiful sights.
Virginia, JB is correct, it is a Magnolia soulangiana, known to us Southerners as a 'tulip tree' -- one of my favorites, by the way. Aren't those shades of pink just fabulous!
My French friend bought one of these trees en Bretagne to take back to the Loire Valley, so they have a French connection as well.
My WV is plasi --- almost plaisir which is what your photos give.
They are "right," Virginia. I once labeled a tulip tree leaf as a tulip tree leaf in high school biology, and my teacher marked it incorrect. He said it's a Japanese Magnolia, and some folks up north call 'em miniature magnolias. Whatever! I still like calling 'em tulip trees though.
Well all I can say is that whatever we call it around this wonderful blog world, it's gorgeous and it's a tulip tree and just maybe it's a Japanese magnolia. It's spring, n'est-ce pas!? :) V
Meant to say there is a massive tulip tree in flower on the Route de Gorbio. I've one in my garden too but it's too young to flower and is currently covered in fabric to keep it warm!

You must come down!

Oh dear, do you dear readers know how hard it will be for me to tell JB he's RIGHT? I don't think my mouth can form the words! HA

And JB is loving every minute...watching you squirm... trying to say it!
"Oh Wow!" came out of my mouth as soon as I saw this one V!!! And then, I thought to myself," isn't that that pretty pink magnolia blossom?"
Have I mentioned how much I love your new banner photo??? Fabulous!!!
All this time I thought they were "baby magnolias." Well from now on, I'm going to call them tulip trees.
so good that you caught them in their precious, fleeting moment to shine.

We were in B'ham last week, and it was just beautiful! All the white pear trees made it look like a wedding!
No magnolia? I would have sworn jb was right! Isn't tulip tree just another name for it? Beautiful anyway.
Such a beautiful flower and photograph. Gorgeous.
