Wikipedia is back up and running and gives this definition of a ghost sign:
A ghost sign is an old hand-painted advertising signage that has been preserved on a building for an extended period of time. The signage may be kept for its nostalgic appeal, or simply indifference by the owner.
I thank my friend, NY blogger Daryl for tipping me off to the term when she visited me here last summer. Now I'm on the prowl for more!

I love it! Thank you, and Daryl, for the term. We have several of these in Pasadena.

Nice sign and such a token of a gone era. Love to see it.
Nice concept, and thank you for spreading the word about the term "ghost sign."
Very nice. Evocative.
We have a couple of "restored" ones here in Columbiana. I wonder if they count as "ghosts" if they have been re-painted.
A ghostly shot of a cool ghost sign!
i love the sepia tones of this...i had no idea these were ghost signs...thanks! we have several around here and now i can sound all informed!
We must be behind the times; all of the 'ghost signs' here in my town seem to be faded beyond identification. This is really cool. Thanks for sharing!
A couple of years ago we went to a dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in Pasadena featuring pairings with Jack Daniels! We walked in and were presented with two different types of cocktails, I chose the mint julep and was it wonderful!!! Then with each course we had a different Jack Daniels...my favorites were the regular ol' black label and of course, Gentleman Jack!!!
Love the sign!!!
