I had other photos ( of better quality) that I'd selected for July 4th, but yesterday I went out to the Children's Fresh Air Farm to serve up some patriotic sundaes ( vanilla ice cream plus blueberries and strawberries) to the
Summer Learning Program kiddos. Before the ice cream throw down, we all gathered in the beautiful open air chapel there for a patriotic performance. I think this says it all today.

Lovely!
Brilliant. Love hearing that children are learning the Star Spangled Banner.
Happy birthday, America! Great celebratory post you have here. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic header photo. As a former American History teacher I love this stuff, but I also love to burst some balloons when patriotism gets wrapped up in flag-waving and "my country right or wrong" thinking.
For example, Francis Scott Key was a lawyer, and one of his cases involved defending slavery against the abolitionists. The "land of the free and the home of the brave" was only for white men! No people of color and no women!
Lois taught middle school Language Arts. Mostly black and hispanic kids. Back in the 90s she used to tell them that a black man would be president before a white woman. They would hoot and holler and say "No way, Mrs. Anderson!"
I'll bet most of them remember that lesson!
Our kids need to learn all the facts. Right?
Yes that beautifully says it all!
