Mighty Girls!

Granddaughter Eva and her sweet, smart, supportive teammates at Advent School's last volleyball game yesterday. Love these girls who have been friends, most from 4K to 8th Grade, and love this school.

Photo Homework

I am leading a book study of Chris Orwig's terrific book, Visual Poetry, at Independent Presbyterian Church right now. I'm also a participant. At the end of most of his chapters, Chris lists some fun yet challenging assignments. I'm all in with the other class members, so this week I chose "photographing a number of people with the same object." I grabbed my Tour Eiffel rouge and yesterday I visited Advent Episcopal School. French teacher Anne Barton kindly offered her 7th grade class. Granddaughter Eva is in that class, so I knew her classmates would be fun and willing subjects. I thought I'd share a few, although every single student was creative and fun to photograph, as well as their teacher!

Angels We Have Heard On High

The Advent Day School's Choral Ensemble presented a Christmas concert yesterday.  Under the direction of Rick Phillips, this choir always amazes me.  (By the way, that's my little angel Eva on the front row in the middle!)

And while these angels sang, in Connecticut the unthinkable was happening. Once again our nation's heart is broken in grief and disbelief.

Column Detail

One of downtown Birmingham's most beautiful churches is the Cathedral Church of the Advent. I have enjoyed photographing it on many occasions. This week I am donating three of my photographs for the Silent Auction as part of their fundraiser for the Advent Day School.  These are two of the photographs I am offering.  It is a privilege to be able to share my talents in order to benefit such worthy causes in my community.

The Tune du Jour is "Prelude" by Michael Dulin.
