Wave Your Flag!

I took this photo as the train pulled through Irondale, Alabama a few years ago. I love it for a lot of reasons. Happy Birthday America!

Cool Digs

The Irondale Chamber of Commerce has probably the coolest digs in the Birmingham area. They are housed in a very red train car!  Watch your step as you climb up to say, "Hello!"

Gotta Spare?

This well kept vintage hmmm..........something, was on display at the Whistle Stop Festival in Irondale recently.  I'm sure some of my "car guys" can enlighten us as the make and year.  I just liked the two wheels with the white sidewall tires.

The New Lawn Maintenance Guy

Slow, but cheap and we can only hope he has the proper credentials when the police come knocking.

No Loitering!

Well I suppose even one of Irondale's finest needs a break from the heat like the rest of us.

So Long Summer, 2011

This colorful umbrella and the ice cream stand at the Whistle Stop Festival last weekend, was a reminder that very soon ( maybe) our temps here in Alabama will start to feel more like fall and we'll be shopping for pumpkins!  In the meantime, we are still enjoying warm weather with just a hint of fall, and still buying ice cream!

All That Jazz

The guys at Oz Works and Playhouse Inc, in Irondale, have a little band. While I was poking around their space,  I found this room where they apparently... get down!!!!  I'd love to be invited back to hear them!

What's Really Big and Purple??

NO! Not Barney.....Oz Works in Irondale.  Oz Works specializes in "theatrical scenery, backdrops, props, giant scupltures (Barney??), event scenery and more."  After reading this, I'm thinking I need to get back over there and sweet talk my way inside and have a photographer's field day!

Breaking news: Chris at Oz Works has emailed me and invited me to come by and take photos. Hot Dog!!!

CDP Theme Day - RED!

Today is the first of the month, so it's Theme Day for City Daily Photo Bloggers all over the world. Today we are all seeing red! Well this theme has my name written all over it! I had quite a few to choose from of course, but decided to share this one. This is the old caboose, right off the tracks where the Irondale Chamber of Commerce hangs out. It was great fun to photograph, in fact I have a few more to sprinkle around in days to come.

My fellow bloggers have some terrific photos to share. Please give them a visit.

Doggone Books - 100 Strangers Challenge

Stranger # 99

Meet my new friend Voris Williams. Voris opened Doggone Books - Used Books & Other Neat Stuff , in "downtown" Irondale when he retired. Actually he really was a stranger for the first minute and a half after I walked in to have a look around. After that we starting visiting and found out we had a mutual friend and learned a lot about each other! Voris is Stranger #99. One more to go. It could be this week. Stay tuned. Oh and did I buy anything here? You bet, a pocket map of Paris! :)

Upper Room Baptist Church

While I was in Irondale last Friday I decided to drive around the neighborhood. I found this lovely little church. The windows made me park and get out. They remind me of small town churches all over Alabama. Perfectly simple I think.
