Farewell Fall!

Autumn in Birmingham came very late this year. We suffered through an awful drought. I love the autumn color in my city and bid it a fond farewell as we are finally getting rain and just this week some chilly weather. Christmas is in the air. Stay tuned!

Traffic Stopper

The corner of Highway 31 and Shades Crest Road in Vestavia Hills has been in bloom for 30 years, thanks to the Men's Garden Club of Vestavia.  Traffic is always whizzing by this busy intersection but when you get caught by the light, it's a delight to see what they've added.  This arbor that is just blooming with purple clematis caught my eye.

Becky's Arbor

My friend Becky grows the most amazing flowers.  If you're at the Pepper Place Market, stop by and say hello (Brown's Farms) and tell her I sent you.  In the backyard of her home, she's made a simple arbor into a show stopper.  Don't you agree?

Winter Arbor

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens is lovely in any season.  There is something blooming most of the year, but I think the arbor in the Rose Garden is beautiful with just the sleeping vines and the patina on the trellis and columns in winter.

Through the Arbor

While taking a stroll through the gates of the arbor at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens , look what I found! About nine months out of the year, Birmingham's professional children's photographers (and parents) flock here to capture their tiny subjects in this beautiful setting.
