Hear Me Roar!

Across the street fro, The Garages, Fritz Woehle stored a treasure trove of old statuary, doors and so much more from his travels. I have been fortunate to get inside the gates and photograph. Fritz even took me there once. A photographer's paradise.

Doors, Doors, Doors

Take a stroll out back of Southern Accents Architectural Antiques and you'll find a warehouse chock full of windows, doors and a lot more. Need a door? They have big doors, small doors, colorful doors, beat up doors, really beat up doors, you name it.

Keyless

A new shipment of antique doors from France arrived at Architectural Heritage last week. I enjoyed photographing the locks, key holes and door handles. This one had by far, the most character.

Alley Abstract

This old door in an alleyway off 20th Street North caused me to stop my car, jump out and take a quick shot.  My photographer friend Larry O. Gay says, "Art is where you find it." I listened.

Chair and Door

 The Garage

If I didn't know better, I'd think Fritz Woehle placed this lovely bistro chair in front of this fabulous painted door, and then gave the vines instructions as well.

I will be teaching my photography class, From Snapshots to Creative Photographs at Samford After Sundown again this fall. Please share this link with anyone who might be interested in the Birmingham area.

Also, for those of you planning a trip to Paris, or just dreaming of one, I"ll be teaching a one day workshop, Weekend In Paris at Samford on Sept. 28 from 9-3.  I will share travel tips, a bit of French culture and language as well my favorites things to see and do in Paris. In the afternoon we will talk photography and how to bring home fabulous photographs from your travels.

From Turkey With Love

Fritz Woehle has a treasure trove stashed across the street from The Garages on the southside.  If memory serves, this gorgeous old door is a piece from Turkey.

Some of my Birmingham readers will think I"ve been poking around The Garage again, but today a photo from the back patio area at Parkside Cafe, in the Avondale neighborhood.

1910

Spotted on the alleyway between 19th and 20th Streets in downtown Birmingham.

I'll be joining many of my Auburn Kappa Delta sorority sisters for a reunion of sorts this weekend. I'll be back to commenting on Sunday evening. Bon weekend everyone!

Doors From the Past I

I was fortunate to be able to have access to a wonderful treasure trove at The Garage last week. My photography buddy William Nolen and I were given access to an area where Fritz Whaley stores some wonderful architectural pieces. Mind you, it's a mélange of junk right alongside some very special finds. That's what we photographers delight in after all. William and I declared it another "mother lode"! There were so many fabulous old doors ( I thought I'd been transported back to Paris ) that I've decided to embark on yet ANOTHER series. Today the first, with many more to come.

For your viewing pleasure, William has made a little movie of our time spent at The Gargage right here.

View From the Lyric

When Tom and I were prowling around upstairs at the Lyric Theatre several months ago, we found this room and I rather liked the view of the tiled roof across the street paired with the old glass paned door.
