I told you that I never do my volunteer shift at the
Birmingham Museum of Art without my trusty camera. Last week it was the neat
reflections in the rain puddles. This week may be the best yet. I looked out over the Sculpture Garden and
Botero's "Reclining Figure" was getting a bath! I ran for my camera and scooted outside. This friendly museum employee, who works in the restoration department, explained that this is done periodically and after her bath she will be waxed and polished to protect her finish. She laughingly added that she would wait till after the lunch crowd had cleared out of the Terrace Café. Apparently the "buffing process" always draws a nice crowd of (snickering?) onlookers. I hate I missed that! If this piece looks familiar, I've featured her
here. You really do need to visit the Birmingham Museum of Art you know. There's a really great
exhibit you need to see!
A nice surprise yesterday. Our blog friends Maya and Janet gave me a SKYPE call and we had a terrific visit. I even got a "tour " of their new apartment in France, a stone's throw from Geneva where they have jobs now. This time they didn't catch me in my baseball cap, worse.....I was in my PJ's much too late in the morning! That could be drawback of SKYPE I think.

My boss was talking about SKYPE today (he talks to his cousin in Hong Kong for FREE) - I'm behind the techno times again.

The two Botero figures that grace the lobby of the TimeWarner Center in Columbus Circle are always in need of polishing . they are nudes and I swear not a single tourist walks past that doesnt touch the male figure's privates!

Oh how utterly fabulous. You really caught the moment, Virgiia. Well done. I adore Botero. Monaco has loads - Adam and Even and Woman smoking which is rather like this lady but lying on tummy.
Don't talk about Skype and being caught out. I answer mine now but I don't turn on the video! Problem solved.

I've seen myself on Skype and it's not pretty a pretty sight. Still, we'll have to try it sometime, but with Halloween masks.
Ask your pal, the friendly museum employee, if she does windows...mine are pretty sketchy and could use a good cleaning. Nice catch!
For you SKYPE friends, NONO NO! The fun is being able to talk with your friends and actually see their smiling faces. Although Janet and Maya chuckled at my "garb" the most fun was seeing each other. That's what makes it better than a phone call. NOW....... that said, if I haven't got my make up on , we aren't doing any SKYPE! :) PJ,email me and I"ll give you my name or password or whatever it is.
