Column Detail

One of downtown Birmingham's most beautiful churches is the Cathedral Church of the Advent. I have enjoyed photographing it on many occasions. This week I am donating three of my photographs for the Silent Auction as part of their fundraiser for the Advent Day School.  These are two of the photographs I am offering.  It is a privilege to be able to share my talents in order to benefit such worthy causes in my community.

The Tune du Jour is "Prelude" by Michael Dulin.

The Church looks really old...the detail on those columns is stunning.
How kind of you to donate your photos to a good cause. Who will win them, I wonder.

Love the detail here and as others have said, bless you for your donation. I adored the Reid Chapel photo.

These are finely taken of the crumbling detailing. Reminds me of your Paris blog(sigh!). We'll get you sorted for skywatch sign in. Very generous of you to donate these. I hope they go to an appreciative home.

Virginia, these are lovely photos! I grew up in Jefferson County near the city. I am not too far away being in the lovliest village of the plains. I am very new to to reading blogs and will certainly be limited to weekends as I too am a teacher. I do love the sense of the sojourn and visit with kindred spirits that I have found thus far. My photo is a garden in Burford, England, one of the Cotswold towns. Great post about Samford!

The school was lucky to snag you. Your site has helped me pay better visual attention to things I've been blithely passing by on a daily basis.

These are lovely. The detail in the second is great. Why don't they make buildings like this anymore?!

Virginia, in addition to being an Orange & Blue Fool, I am also an Ewhiskeypalian and delighted in your details from Advent. I find it so heartening to see that Birmingham has truly undergone an amazing metamorphosis since the 1960's. While I still get there a few times each year, I certainly do not get to see all of the places and scenes which you have so beautifully rendered with your camera. Thank you for your talent and insights! Question: Have you featured Independent Presbyterian on Highland interior or exterior shots since you have been writing/posting this blog?

Wowie zowie Virginia! Lucky indeed will be the winner/s of these. I love your detail shots always, no matter where you focus that lens of yours.

You must be kidding! That's my church and if you will put the church name in the search at the top, you will see all the posts! THe stained glass window was just about a week ago I think. Do we know each other????

PS For a real treat, come up to the Advent at Christmas and hear the Day School's Lessons and Carols. Amazing!

Virginia, I don't think we know one another. However, I often make the pilgrimage there in December to enjoy the annual Christmas House Tour. I was there last December. It is such a great place to begin! Oh, the food you serve at the tea! I have the recipe book too! I love the building! It is such a joy to see. I even remember the fire. What a great recovery the church has made with much love and care and planning I am sure! It is truly one of the city's treasures!

Do you have a blog or email? Let me know through mine. I'd like to ask you if you know some folks in Auburn. What a nice connection we've made.

I love earth tones . It's very nice of you to donate the pictures. Some people are gonna be happy with those on their walls and at the same time some children will enjoy a nice school .

"Cathedral church" of the Advent.
For me two words that we could not put next to each other in French.
Would you have some explanation?

Virginia said...

No I can't help you because I am not Episcopalian. Maybe I can find out from the ministers at the church.
