Sadly it's about time to bid a fond farewell to watermelon and all the other fine things summer has to offer down here in Alabama. But these little guys below, and their giant size relatives are starting to appear around town, especially at the Pepper Place Market last Saturday. It's beginning to look a little like autumn, but we are still waiting for it to FEEL like it. The thought of a sweater still makes me swoon. Rumor has it that we might get some relief from the heat tomorrow... oh happy day! Stay tuned, that could change on a dime!

My husband absolutely adored watermelon....and I didn't buy a single one this past summer; couldn't bring myself to eat any. But I will one day...
I love the patterns on its rind, and also on the little gourds below.
I love this sweet watery fruit! We get it once in a year and never miss to have it enough during the season....

"Watermelons" is for me synonym of "knock knock who is there?
"
It's arriving like a freight train up here. Almost ready to start looking for my suitcase.
Beautiful colors. Summer's ok, but I love Fall!
Same here in Florida, Virginia. It's too hot and although I'll miss the summer crops, I won't miss the heat. That's why I'm heading to Paris, you know. Just to cool down. Hahahaha.. I'd go to Paris if it were hotter but it sounds like a good excuse, doesn't it.
This time tomorrow, I'll be in a panic with the last minute frenzy to not forget anything before heading to the airport.
Our excruciating heat finally broke today. I've been living on watermelon for the past week. (well, watermelon and chocolate. Make that, watermelon, chocolate, and rose wine.)
Oddly it was cool temps for both Rosh Hashanna and Yom Kippur (and it rained before sundown, another never happened before in my memory) and today is definitely fall-like .. I wish I could send it your way .. oh and I fasted during Yom Kippur for us all, so go forth and sin, you have a clean slate!
Daryl,
Merci, now I can go out to lunch with my friends today knowing I have a clean slate. LEt me just tell you that the " Girl, You're Not in Paris Anymore Diet" is not much fun. Grrrr
AH,
You're my kinda girl. And we got some cool weather last night. I even opened my windows!
Karen,
You'll thank me for the advice on taking a little extra outfit in your carryon. Of course, if they "misplace" your luggage you can always shop in Paris! The Monoprix did me right.
B2,
You'd better boogie before it starts snowing up there in Michigan!
Awww Bibi, I hope my photo brough some fond memories of your sweet husband.
beautiful shots
Yes, but the corn cobs are in! Eat them before they disappear too.
If I could choose it would be summer all the time! :-)
Great shots of beautiful fruits, V.!
V, I do love watermelon, and great image...but I have to say it has been a little too soggy for me lately! This morning was glorious! What's the temperature in the 'ham?
Hugs!!
Nothing like a big, sweet, juicy watermelon! And cooler weather!
45 tonight! They said so on the news, it must be true. :)
Farewell sweet watermelon, hello pumpkin!
D and Firelight,
Thank goodness! I walked late this afternoon and for once did not come home dripping wet! We all know it can get warm again, but let's enough this respite!! Whooohooo!
Sad to see summer go, but the fall harvest is a delight to look forward too. Er, 48 degrees here right now, 36 for a Low tonight. Best I can do for you.
Geez, pink squishy torpedoes and fruit bombs. Have some after Snapper's carrots and Nathalie's pumpkins from today.
As long as the crickets are still singing at night I am happy!!!
Sweet pictures!
Aloha, Friend!

I'm sad to see your melons going for the winter.
Ok, I tried to type it with a straight face!
