Cherry Blossom Festival 2011 - The Shoes

Saturday I dropped by the Birmingham Botanical Gardens for the Japan-America Society of Alabama's annual Cherry Blossom Festival.  Today and in the days to come, I will share some images with you. Today's photograph was taken just outside the tearoom where a tea ceremony was in progress.  A reminder of the extreme loss that many of the participants are feeling and thoughts of the people of Japan.

Such a delicate way to think of the Japanese people.

We showed up Saturday to photograph some friends and had no idea this was going on, what a treat! We watched part of the tea ceremony, I must have walked right by you hehe!

We were watching the news the other night covering the destruction left by the quake/tsumani and I said to Toonman.. 'Amazingly there are no looters' .. then in the Sunday Times Week in Review one of the political cartoons they featured said the same.
Not sure what this has to do with your photo but it reminded me of how gracious, gentle and unlike Americans the Japanese are.

A lovely photograph...but are you sure that's not a photo of my closet??? Oh! Never mind...I had to put all my flip flops away when we moved up here!!!

Descanso Gardens in La Canada also has a lovely tea room and I believe they do the tea ceremonies there as well...a lovely tradition!

At first, I thought you pulled a photo from Japan out of your archives! Brings back many memories of my days teaching public high school English in Gifu Prefecture!
