Farewell to the PIg

The Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store in Crestine Village has long been THE place to shop but also meet and greet friends and neighbors.  It was a great, small store where you got to know the checkers and call them by name.  They closed their doors November 1st and this was a parade float in the Mountain Brook Mystics Halloween Parade. I"m sad too. I loved shopping at the Pig!

And here I thought that was a fictional store name.

They certainly have never had that kind of store here... is it a Southern thing?

Nice float.

I would much rather shop in a smaller store, as long as the produce and meat are top knotch.

It's a shame that the small hometown stores are disappearing. The big ones are just too big when you're looking for only one or two items.

Too small and not profitable enough? That's a shame.
