Ta Daaaaa!

I checked another one off the Bucket List yesterday. I finally got my feet( knees) wet in the shoals of the Cahaba River. Staying on my feet was a  feat in itself, but thanks to many helping hands, I managed to  capture a few photos of the infamous Cahaba Lily! ( Hymenocallis coroniaria) These lovelies only thrive in shoals with an open canopy and moving water and bloom from May - June.

A special thank you to Independent Presbyterian Church's Highland Avenue Forum for sponsoring Dr. Larry Davenport's lecture last week as well as our outing yesterday which he led.

A Dream Coming True

While looking very much like the Cahaba Lily, this one photographed at Birmingham's Railroad Park several years ago, is just a relative.

I have dreamed of photographing the Cahaba Lilies in their natural habitat for years. I truly thought I'd never get the chance, but I'm thinking this Saturday morning might be the day. Dr. Larry Davenport will lead a group from Independent Presbyterian Church and others from our community to West Brockton on Saturday, for a full blown Cahaba Lily experience. I am so thrilled I've almost blocked out the "S" word from my mind.

Many thanks to IPC's Highland Avenue Forum for the wonderful series, Of Water and the Spirit, that is culminating with last nights lecture by Dr. Davenport, and the field trip on Saturday.

How I Roll

Those of you who know me well, are chuckling. I'm notorious for hating the tripod and when nobody is looking, the hard hat as well. Actually I took the hat off to get a few ceiling photos and put it right back on! Spent some time at the wonderful old Pizitz Department Store building again last week. Work is moving quickly. I'm almost out of time...

Old Haunts

On my way home yesterday,  I passed The Elegant Earth at The Arbor. I've been stopping by there every so often,  for photos since I began my Birmingham blog. Yesterday, I was lucky to meet Chris, and I assured him I would share photos for their website.  They were happy for me to take photos and I was glad to be back in a place that is always a visual delight.

The Arbor features fabulous garden containers as well as the most wonderful fountains. Just walking around made me feel so peaceful.

Uncovered during the renovation of the historic Pizitz Department Store Building, this clock bearing the LP for founder Louis Pizitz. This clock will be restored to working order and will hang in the newly renovated building.

Another Look

For me, the entire life cycle of the plants here in Birmingham is a delight for my lens. Here, a bud with dying leaves is a work of art.

BTML On the Road II - QUACK!!!

These two caused a huge racket. They were not happy with a gaggle of photographers invading their space. Maybe I caught them making up? I'm not so sure.

BTML On The Road

Last Friday, I presented a full day photography workshop, FROM SNAPSHOTS TO CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHS at Harbor Club in Greensboro, GA. It was a terrific day and after, I relaxed on the deck of my dear friends Corey and John Crouse for "wine thirty".  If you're lucky enough to be on the lake, you're lucky enough."
