Old Haunts

On my way home yesterday,  I passed The Elegant Earth at The Arbor. I've been stopping by there every so often,  for photos since I began my Birmingham blog. Yesterday, I was lucky to meet Chris, and I assured him I would share photos for their website.  They were happy for me to take photos and I was glad to be back in a place that is always a visual delight.

The Arbor features fabulous garden containers as well as the most wonderful fountains. Just walking around made me feel so peaceful.

Birmingham Rouge - Welcome!

Whoever designed this fountain at the entrance to the new Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children, knew just what they were doing.  Going to the hospital is a scary thing for children of all ages. This made me smile when I saw it. I hope it does the same for the children that come here as well.

A Cool Spot to Dine

This cool and inviting fountain at Bottega Restaurant and Café on Highland Avenue, is sure to be more popular for outdoor dining as the weather cools here in Birmingham. I can hardly wait!

The Jordan Home

This beautifully restored neo-classical home was built in 1908 by Dr. Mortimer Jordan.   Located on Highland Avenue, it was one of the stops we made when I showed my NYC blog friend Daryl, around town last June.

CDP Theme Day - Fountains

Boy the first of the month rolls around quickly. I ALMOST let this theme day get past me.  Luckily my friend Terry and I went roaming around downtown last weekend and I caught this photo of the fountain in the center of Linn Park backlit with the late afternoon sun.

As many of you know, the theme for the first day of every month is voted on by the 1000's of CDPB around the world.  You can click on the link below and see their creative interpretations of this month's theme!

Ice Fountain

I spotted this gorgeous icy fountain yesterday on Highland Avenue. It was still frozen, although it was beginning to drip at the very bottom. My lucky day I think. Maybe winter isn't all that bad!

The Courtyard Fountain

The courtyard at the Cathedral Church of the Advent is a lovely, serene space. This metal fountain I think is especially nice against the brick wall with the leaves just beginning to turn.

What Is It? Where Is It?
We have a winner.......
Fishinthebrook correctly guessed the Water Works Board's Fountain
located on First Aveue North.
Fish, you may choose one of my photographs and I'll deliver the print personally! :)

Checkmate at the City Hall

It's not every day that you can go and pay your parking ticket or have a chat with the mayor and have a quick game ( can you have a quick game?)  of chess outside at the same time!  Well the Mountain Brook City Hall in Crestline Village offers this plus this beautiful fountain as well. The chess pieces are toddler size, and I really wanted a photo of some folks actually playing a game, but had to settle this shot.  If I'm ever in the right place at the right time, I'll show you the results.

* Please check out our friend Marley's Cheltenham DP blog today.  Marley has joined the Table/Chair series and a fine one it is!!!!  Thanks Marl.

Two Fountains

After my post (here) about The Arbor some of you requested to see more of it.  Blognote wanted a peek at the courtyard so I was happy to have an excuse to go back for another photo shoot there.  Today, two fountains from The Arbor that I think you will enjoy.

SKYWATCH FRIDAY/ TWO THINGS CHALLENGE Blue & Green

This fountain is in the centerpiece  of historic Linn Park and the downtown area.  One of the first parks built in Birmingham,  it is the site of City Stages and the Magic City Art Connection to name just a few.  It is surrounded by City Hall, the Jefferson County Courthouse, Birmingham Museum of Art and Boutwell Auditorium.  I have been saving this one and today seemed the perfect time to post it,  because it showcases a lovely blue sky for my Skywatch Friday entry and the colors of Blue and Green meeting the challenge this week as well.  I covered all my bases with one photo!

For more participants of Skywatch Friday click here.  Two Things Challenge participants are here.

TOMORROW...... Have I really been at this for 100 DAYS  ?????

The Tune du Jour is back.  "Aquarius" by the Fifth Dimension should be a nice backdrop to this lovely fountain.

Auntie Em, I Don't Think We're In BIrmingham Anymore!

Buongiorno!
Since I have given you a few glimpses of Birmingham with a French twist,  I thought you might enjoy a little Italy now.  It doesn't look like I will get to visit our friends in Arona or Torino, Italy anytime soon,  so this will have to do for the time being.  This lovely place is  The Arbor.  It is very much like strolling in an Italian courtyard chock full of gurgling fountains, planters of all shapes and sizes and beautiful statuary with an aged patina to grace your home or garden.  This is one trip to Italy that doesn't require a passport.   Tomorrow, how about a taste of Italy at one of Birmingham's most beautiful and popular restaurants ???
