Never fear, these bikers who will show up at Avondale Park will be very cute, friendly and decorated to the hilt for Memorial Day in hopes of winning the big prize at the Annual Bike Parade. Not to be missed will be the winners of the Fishing Rodeo. A great day for our community. The fun starts at 9:00 a.m. Be there or be square!
The Sons of Vulcan are a non-profit blacksmith and metalworking group located in our Avondale community, dedicated to the artistic traditions of metal working. Last month, they demonstrated their expertise at our Art in Avondale Park event. Very cool to watch. I'll have more photos to come.
This is the first of the month and as always, for over 6 years, I've participated in our City Daily Photo Theme Day. Click HERE to see how my fellow CDP bloggers interpreted the theme for this month.
For several years, I've had the pleasure of serving on the planning committee for Art In Avondale Park with a small but dedicated group that loves our community and is dedicated to putting on an art event that focuses on children, giving them many great opportunities to create and also raise money for the art program at Avondale Elementary our neighboring school. Thanks to the many wonderful artists and non profit groups, it's always a success for our city and especially our neighborhood. For the next two days, I will be featuring photos from past events.
Fabulous Birmingham photographer Liesa Cole was the Grand Marshal of this year's Bike Parade and Fishing Rodeo at Avondale Park. She got in the decorating spirit herself with her Regions bike adorned with fly swatters and that knock out hat festooned with flowers. Below she awards the First Prize for Best Decorated Bike!
Grab the kids, decorate the bikes and scooters and whatever and get to Avondale Park on Saturday. It's the annual Bike Parade and Fishing Rodeo. It starts at 9:00 sharp and I'll be there to photograph the whole schmolly! Some good ole community fun.
I hope everyone in the Birmingham area will come to the newly renovated Avondale Park for Art In Avondale Park. There will be many, many fun activities for the kiddos plus lots of affordable art. I hope to see you there and maybe take your picture!
A few weeks ago, I heard some commotion outside my apartment. When I went to my balcony to investigate I realized that the Magic City AIDS Walk was parading right past me!! I am a supporter of Birmingham AIDS Outreach and should have been at Avondale Park when they started the race. I quickly snapped the photo on the left, and then ran down to the street with camera in hand and caught what might have been the last participant but most assuredly the cutest!
It's the first of the month and by now, you know the drill. Today hundreds of City Daily Photobloggers around the world are posting their version of a common theme. How do we get this monthly theme you ask? Well we all vote. I'll admit I DID NOT vote for this one and as of yesterday morning, I had nothing to offer until.... I attended the Dance Walkat Avondale Park in the afternoon. Bingo!
