CDP Theme Day - Photo of the Year

The first day of January, City Daily Photobloggers around the world choose the one photo they consider their "photo of the year". I chose Millie and her dad. This is a special photograph for me as I love Millie and her family very much and for me, this photo is a mixture of joy, trust, and pure luck on my part.

Happy New Year!

City Daily Photo Theme Day - Ephemeral

Ephemeral - Lasting a short time.

Our City Daily Photo Bloggers are coming up with some tough themes these days. I had to scramble for an entry, but thought this sweet smelling bouquet for my birthday from my friends Kay and Pete in Mobile fit the bill. Their blooms will be gone soon,  but I will enjoy their beauty and sweet scent till they go.

Today my City Daily Photoblog friends around the world are posting their take on this monthly theme. Have a look HERE and see their entries. They are a clever bunch, so have a look.

CDP Theme Day - Upside Down

It's already the first of the month and that means our monthly CDP Theme Day. This month's Upside Down theme almost stumped me but then I discovered this shot of the historic Massey Building in downtown Birmingham that I took years ago. I loved the color only seen by looking straight up.

There are a lot of creative CDP bloggers around the world. Have a look HERE to what they have posted this month.

CDP Theme Day - Worker

The Sons of Vulcan are a non-profit blacksmith and metalworking group located in our Avondale community, dedicated to the artistic traditions of metal working.  Last month, they demonstrated their expertise at our Art in Avondale Park event.  Very cool to watch. I'll have more photos to come.

This is the first of the month and as always, for over 6 years, I've participated in our City Daily Photo Theme Day. Click HERE to see how my fellow CDP bloggers interpreted the theme for this month.

CDP Theme Day - Landmark

Today I join my fellow City Daily Photo blog friends around the world who are celebrating the theme I chose for this month....LANDMARKS.  I had method to my madness when I was asked to pick a theme.  As my faithful followers know, the historic 100 year old Lyric Theatre in downtown Birmingham is undergoing a fabulous restoration and I have been so blessed to be able to chronicle the progress through my lens.  The work underway and huge changes are taking place. I've not been inside for a few months but today share one of the my many obsessions with this lovely old place... the horsehair backed plaster architectural details.  Before the serious stuff started, I'd walk around the balconies with my camera and find pieces at my feet. I'm told the horsehair backing is the reason for the fabulous acoustics.  I hope to bring you recent photos of progress very soon.

CDP Theme Day - Take Away

Today, my City Daily Photo Blog friends are posting their take on our August theme... TAKE AWAY. I will admit I searched long and hard through my archives to come up with something.  This photo from our weekly Pepper Place Market seemed to fit. This shopper was taking away some day lilies for his yard.  Many of us take away Alabama grown produce, art pieces or simply take away the feeling of community coming together each Saturday morning, enjoying the music, the food, and supporting our Alabama farmers!

CDP Theme Day - People On The Street

Wow, it's already the first of the month again and I almost let City Daily Photo's Theme Day sneak up on me. Well to be honest, it sneaks up on me every month.  This theme was pretty easy for me as I love street photography here in Birmingham and in Paris.  I had a lot of choices from the Bell Center Children's Run held recently during the Mercedes Marathon.  This little guy took to the streets and made it to the finish line with lots of cheers from everyone there!

Have a look at my fellow bloggers' choices for this fun theme right HERE.

City Daily Photo Theme Day - Best of 2013

Today, the first day of January, 2014 the CDP bloggers around the world have chosen the photograph that they feel is the best of 2013.  My choice was easy this year.  Today I repost Addie Mae's Shoes , part of the beautiful sculpture The Four Spirits by Birmingham native Elizabeth Macqueen.  The work was unveiled in September during commemorative events marking the 50 year anniversary of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing that killed for dear little girls.  Macqueen's beautiful sculpture stands at the corner of Kelly Ingram Park, across the street from the church.

Please click HERE to see the images that my fellow CDP blog friends have chosen as their favorites for 2013.
