Heart to Heart

Yesterday I had so much fun photographing our STAIR  students at Independent Presbyterian Church.  It was the Christmas Party for the Tues/Thurs. group and after their snack, they came into the church parlor around the big tree and sang a few songs with Mrs. Robinson while anxiously awaiting the arrival of Santa Claus and his delightful Elf.  Santa took each child on  his lap and presented them with a book from their Tues and Thurs tutors, along with a stocking FULL of fun... and a new toothbrush.  After Santa left the room, the kids met with their tutors, opened their presents and had a look inside their stockings.  One boy, found Santa making his escape to the sleigh and had a few personal moments to chat about what he wanted.  He ended with , "How are you getting to the North Pole?" Elf Cathy and I replied, "With the reindeer of course!"

Well Ho Ho Ho!!!

Yesterday, Santa made a personal call to Catala Road in Vestavia Hills via the VHFD.  He heard there had been a lot of good boys and girls so he pulled up a chair in the Lawrence's front yard and had a chat with every one of them.  Unfortunately the low light made photographing that next to impossible.  Take my word for it, everyone enjoyed their time with the bearded one and I even gave him a kiss!

Ho Ho Arrives at Triangle Park!

" Look, do see Rudolph up there in the sky?"

It happens faithfully the Sunday before Christmas.  Residents and friends gather in Forest Park's Triangle Park to enjoy hot cider and donut holes and await the magical sound of .... not sleigh bells... but the sound of the sfire truck's siren.  THAT'S how Santa arrives!  There are squeals of excitement and delight and Santa climbs out throwing fistfuls of candy to the awaiting crowd.  This is usually followed by the wails of some frantic toddlers when they realize Santa is actually going to mingle with the crowd.  That is to be expected.  There is always a rousing version of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" sung by Santa and his adoring throng. Santa works the crowd and listens to every wish.  An added attraction is the fire truck and the wonderfully patient fire fighters that serve as Santa's helpers.  Many thanks to the Clairmont Avenue Fire Dept. for making this such a wonderful neighborhood event each year. I am departing from my usual one or two photos today because, well I had so many cute ones I couldn't choose and there are only a few days left to cram these in. HO HO HO!

"Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus"

This is probably my most recognizable addition to my 100 Strangers Challenge.  I'm serious! This particular Santa's helper was a stranger,  and we had a nice chat when I told him what I wanted under my tree this year.  He got a good chuckle out of that and promised he would deliver. Santa Baby, I'm counting on you!  ( I hope Santa has some French speaking elves!)

Actually, this nice Santa was the star of Brunch with Santa at Birmingham's Summit Club on Sunday.  A very kid friendly event enjoyed by all.
