Awesome!

Jarrett Palmore was a hit at Art in Avondale Park.  Instead of just exhibiting his work, he also sat on the ground and showed us all how it was done.  I"ll have to admit I was as fascinated as all the kids and adults that stood around him as he created his celestial landscapes using spray paint!

Heads Up Alabama!

Corinne Cox's Creative Whirl

Today we have a guest blogger/photographer...Eva Singleton! She and brother Davis joined me for a wonderful afternoon at Aldridge Botanical Gardens in Hoover yesterday. These gardens are lovely anytime of the year, but right now there is a most unusual art exhibit. The Alabama Psychological Association Foundation sponsored "Heads Up Alabama! Psychology Promotes Healthy Living". Twenty Alabama artists were chosen to put their creative touches on 3 foot tall ....heads! This is a not to be missed exhibit. Originally these pieces were placed throughout the gardens, but rain damaged the stands so they are now being placed around the covered pavillion. Some remain nearby. The exhibit runs through August 31.

My Eva has shown a lot of interest in photography lately. In fact she's taken over her mom's camera , probably a good thing. Today she has chosen two of her photographs to share with you. I captured the photographer at work shooting her favorite piece - Back to Nature by Tracie Noles-Ross. Eva says she likes this piece because " it has people and animals on it and it's just cool!" I'll have some more to share in the weeks to come.

Merci ma chère Eva for my new profile photo as well!

Mumsie

En Plein Air

I regret that the artist of this lovely painting had stepped away when I snapped this at Spring-a-Ling-a-Ding Dong in English Village. I might have been tempted to buy the finished piece!!

Able to Lift Large Boulders with a Single Hand!

Sure, no problem. Where do you want me to put this thing??

Oh I found myself down at the Birmingham Museum of Art again yesterday. This time I was photographing some heavy lifting. Really heavy lifting! Thanks to CraneWorks' generosity ( they donated most of the cost of the move) , the BMA was able to dismantle a massive outdoor sculpture and transport it across town. Why you ask?? Well the museum is loaning Zachary Coffin's "Antelumpen" to the Five Points West Regional Branch Library. A wonderful effort to place more public art in our community. What better way to share the museum's extensive works of art with its citizens! This was no small undertaking mind you. The rock base weighed well over 14,000 pounds and the 3 abstract antelope heads were made of 18' street light poles! It all went across town on a flat bed trailer. I'm still a little worried about how they kept that boulder from rolling off!

Today a few shots of CraneWorks' workers performing feats of great strength!

Of course these photos are dedicated to my crane loving friend Wayne in Vancouver. He's smiling big time over these!

This guy was amazing. Lifted that boulder with one hand!!!!

Magic City Art Connection - Art to Dye For

Friday I spent about three hours downtown at Linn Park. The Magic City Art Connection cranked up at 10 and I was right there. Sadly Saturday was a wash out. Today looks much better, so you Birmingham readers PLEASE go down and support the artists that have come from all over the country for this great event. Sunday hours.....10-6!

Today, I am featuring Jonah Tobin Shaffer, who had a wonderful display of tie dyed garments and fabric that was gloriously blowing in the wonderful spring breeze.

Many more photos of this great event to follow this week.
