The new Craig Wedderspoon installation in the museum's outdoor Mezzanine Sculpture Gallery is great fun. Scattered all around are his amazing undulating welded aluminum pieces.  I dare you to have a look and not smile.

Yard Art

( 4 1/2 feet tall, weighing 70 pounds)

This wonderful piece of sculpture is on display in the front of Naked Art Gallery on Clairmont Avenue. It's just down the street from my house so I get to enjoy it many times a day. I finally parked and took some photographs last week.  The local artist is Lily Reeves and this is how she's titled her piece:

" We wonder sometimes in the life of the light just how daydreams and time do make things,

and we wonder too, still, since the lasting just might be as strange or as quite as it seems."

Heavy Metal - Michael Bonadio

Add another Birmingham artist to my list! Yesterday I was at Lite Box Gallery visiting with my talented friend Kate Merritt Davis. Kate is curator for an upcoming show there beginning Friday, February 12, from 5-9. Who should walk in but Michael Bonadio. Michael is Artist in Residence/Production Manager at Sloss Furnaces. Michael will have two of his pieces on exhibit ( I have one for you today). Artist......Sloss Furnaces...... two of my favorite things!!!

And my I send a sincere thank you to my faithful blog reader, Beverly and her husband, who recognized me and were so nice to come and say hello yesterday at the Cantina. How wonderful to meet you and put names and faces together!!!

We Finally Meet Charlie Lucas in Person!

Wednesday was my lucky day. I was invited to a friend's home to meet nationally known Alabama folk artist, Charlie Lucas! Charlie, also known as the Tin Man, was up from his home near Montgomery to install this piece of sculpture in their yard. Avid art collectors, they have many pieces of Charlie's work. What a nice man. He took me all around the yard and talked about his sculpture. If his name sounds familiar, you've read about him here and here and here. Don't worry, I'll have more photos to share!
