Birmingham Reflection

This is what I call a drive by shooting. Stopped at a light and took this from the car at UAB.

Art Walk Reflection

My friend and talented Birmingham photographer Karim Shamsi Basha reflected in a doorway at Art Walk last fall. I was taking a class from Karim, and as we wandered Morris Avenue in search of photographs, I caught the photographer himself!

CDP Theme Day - Reflections

Today City Daily Photo Bloggers around the world are posting their take on the July's Theme - Reflections. I've been participating in CDP Theme Days for two years now. I love it, although I rarely plan ahead and actually have something in mind when it rolls around the first day of every month. Fortunately, I'm embarking on an exciting and challenging photography project for my church, Independent Presbyterian Church, and I found a photograph of this colorful reflection as the late afternoon sun shown through one of the many exquisite stained glass windows. I'm happy to share it with all of you today.

Birmingham Triptych

I stopped at the BBVA Compass Bank Building on 20th Street South, not long ago. I was really hoping to have a good vantage point to shoot the funky building across the street. As I walked up the steps on the side, this is what I spotted. Photographer's luck strikes again. ( You might remember the yellow train car from another post as well!)

Museum Reflections

I was at the Birmingham Museum of Art yesterday for my weekly volunteer duties assisting with the grand new exhibit, Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. I looked out over the Sculpture Garden and saw water standing everywhere and .....lo and behold! When I left for the day, I grabbed my camera and headed outside to find those puddles. Thankfully the rain had stopped and I got some interesting reflections.

Winter's Reflections

One thing I have learned as I near my 200th post, don't hoard photos. I've tried to adhere to the one photo a day rule and now I'm left with a zillion photos that I wanted to post but DIDN'T!  I'm thinking I am going to use the photos that I think you might like and so be it. Break the rules and suffer the consequences ( or as I said many times as an educator, " I'll ask forgiveness, not permission!").  When Eric comes to jerk my blog out from under me for posting too many photos in one day, I hope there will be an uprising of sorts.  Till then, let's have some fun!

Yesterday I ventured back to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.  It was late afternoon - chilly, overcast, and mizzly as all get out.  Not a day to stroll the gardens but I loved it.  An added bonus - the puddles that were mirroring some nice reflections.  I stayed until some of the lights came on.  Interesting photos to be had at that hour.

Retail Reflection

Mountain Brook Village is one of the most festive spots around during the holidays.  All of the trees are lined with white lights (below) and they have a spectacular tree that is covered in colored lights. I caught this reflection in Bromberg's Jewelry store window.  Lots of pricey baubles inside for shoppers that aren't feeling the pinch this season!
