Let's Sit on the Porch!

Don't laugh.  It's almost porch sittin' weather down here.  I'm lucky enough to have a patio that is fine in the spring and fall.  Summer tends to be a bit "buggy".  Those folks blessed with screened porches get a lot of company in the summer months!  This little porch is on the back of Kevin Irwin's studio near downtown Birmingham.  Wednesday evening when we were enjoying wine and cheese there , it was nice enough to have the doors open.  I'm trying out that rocker on my next visit.

Where's the melting snow? I'd love to sit and rock. What a way to spend some time. Great photos.

The hours I spent on my grandmother's back porch in Pennsylvania, in the sultry summertime. The metal chair you show reminds me of a similar glider we had.

Oh yes, do let's. Now wouldn't that be something. Wish it were porch sitting weather here but it's not - sun is trying to creep thru clouds. Your photographs are lovely, Virginia.

What a lovely "room with a view" or should I say "chair with a view"?!

Lemononade, porches, sunsets and rocking chairs. That sounds heavenly.
I like the inside looking out. It's teasing and yet inviting. Now we have to go through and see the world beyond.

No time like porch time, especially if there's a rocker involved.

In my next life, I want a large Victorian house with a porch going all the way around it.

Very nice atmosphere! Would you show us your own porch another time? It makes me think of so many films and novels in your South...

Next time you're there do me a fovor and photograph some of the detail on the porch structure for me. I need ideas for my dream porch and this looks like it was very thoughtfully constructed...nice old chairs.

W., You just sit in that nice metal rocker and whittle, I'll sit here rocking and sip this mint julep and watch ya!

It is a very small but quaint little porch overlooking the railroad tracks, downtown B'ham and Sloss Furnaces in the distance.

Ah, it's a nice way to live. Many older home around here have porches; most newer ones do not. They are little-used in our regional culture, which is a shame. BTW, should you think about a tetanus shot before trying that rocker?

Love this porch. You need a fine cigar as ken said. It really helps keep the bugs away. And best of all, a GOOD cigar goes so well the Gentleman Jack.
