Doorways

Old abandoned office building adjoining the old abandoned Lyric Theatre.  You get the picture. Located on the corner of 3rd Avenue North and 18th Street, this is yet another "treasure in the rough" I was privileged to explore on Sunday.  Coming Attraction:  the Lyric Theatre.  Stay tuned, you won't want to miss this!!!

Oh, I hear mutterings about black and white.  Trust me on this one. This photograph said ...color!

Love the pattern you captured!

I agree, colour it had to be. It's a perfect composition, it opens up doors in the mind!

Almost reminds me of something surreal....doors that go on and on, or almost. I remember as a child sitting at my grandmother's vanity table that had two side mirrors and a front one...and the closet door behind me had a mirror. I used to sit there and count myselves....

I like the pale colors in your photo, and I am wearing a combination of them today!

Beautiful pastel colors! Bellissima. I love that sage green, the creamy, the brown and the hint of pompeii red...

Agree with colour: adds to the weariness of the overall image. This is a treasure: the crackled and peeling paint; one door horizonal another vertical; the perspective down to the pile of whatever. Actually, it is a study in lines ...

Today's an "on" day, hey?

Doors behind the door - an excellent and fine work, Virginia.
And yes, please not in black & white, the peculiar charm of sallowness will disappearing.

I see dead people

AH,
Oh no!!! Nothing so drastic, just old theatre seats!

Julie,
I hope I'm back "on" today. Crackling, peeling paint?
You ain't seen nothin yet!

Thanks everyone!

I don't know why, but I like looking at old buildings inside and out. Inside of an old theater is a rare treat. I love your doorways photo and look forward to the rest of the show.(no pun intended.)

Its very monochrome-y so tell the critics to hush.

Its a fabulous angle/perspective .. I sat here for a bit looking at it and wondering if I would have been smart enough to 'see it' the same way ... no, didnt decide ..

Looking for pastels right now I like of course very much this picture.

So that's where the chair pieces were headed to. Naughty, naughty, I'll bet they were making lots of noise as they ran.

I have no comment( see below for why) other than I like it and welcome the "stay tuned series."

Oh you are clever. This is just lovely.

I love your shot. I'm glad you trusted your own insstincts on this one. When I first saw it I thought of the colors in your Palm Sunday shot, and of the rooms in the Rodin mueseum and of some Carl Larsson paintings. Those associations wouldn't have come up if this were in black and white. Maybe only that our Berkeley house had panel doors like that (no, not lying on their sides, just old doors that style :-) ).

I just like the name, Lyric Theatre, so it will be fun to see what you have in store for us.

Gorgeous perspective! I have this 'thing' for abandoned buildings and I really love this shot! Beautiful light and tones too. Well done, V.!

Just reading back through the other comments, and choking on my coffee reading AltaDenaHiker's. Yes, it definitely speaks of past lives.

And Juergen is a poet even when he is not writing poetry: "the peculiar charm of sallowness will disappearing". . .

And the observation that the chairs from your series had piled up back there. Who needs other reading when your comments box is so rich with good things to read!

This is the post that the Colonel and I have been waiting for! We will be following you on the Lyric. I am trying to to remember what films I may have seen there....we usually went to the Alabama, the Ritz, or the Melba. The hubbadub (older than I by about 7 years) says he went to the Lyric on Saturdays to see the serial Westerns! I am going to try to get more on that! Even though the mood is forlorn, I see great dignity in those doorways. More of your great work. I love it.

This is one hell of a good picture. The colors and light are beautiful. It has tremendous depth. The image wants to pull me through but I don't know if I want to go.

Virginia said...

Oh go on Bob, you know what awaits you at the end. The Sorcerer's Apprentice and the dancing chairs. They're coming up soon. When do you leave? You can't miss that post, I'm quoting you, mon ami!

FireLight,
So Hub went to the Lyric?? Hmmmm we'll need to know when. It had a rather colorful past after a certain point and it wasn't westerns!

D.
This was one of the most adventuresome treks I've made in the name of City Daily Photo. Lord have mercy!!!
