Easter Memories

Today, the day before Easter, I thought I'd share a special photograph from my childhood.  I'm guessing I was about 2 years old.  A treasured memory of my Momma and me in our Easter bonnets.

The photo below was one I remembered when Laurie, at South Pasadena DP,  posted a 1957 Chevy Thursday .  I think it's interesting how our parents often  posed  us next to the family car. I know my mother and I were very "car proud" when she bought this fine finned vehicle,  so it rightfully shared the Easter pictures with me that year!

Today I leave you with a clip of an  Easter commercial that my girls always loved.
"Thank you Easter Bunny, Bawk, Bawk!"

Oh Virginia - These are great pictures! I LOVE the one of you and your Mom. No wonder you're such a pretty lady. I think our folks would be ready to hop in the car to go somewhere and just say "Oh a quick picture" and we would just stop before we got in the car. The commercial is great - made L.C. the cat (stretched across the desk) a little nervous though.......bawk, bawk, bawk!

Nice!! So few photos of the past, compared to what we do today! But the ones we have make perhaps even more pleasure?

Vintage photos always hold so much fascination, don't they? Peter's correct ... we have so few of them compared with what we are able to produce today. Digital cameras have changed the output.

That could have been me in both photos. I loved to get an Easter bonnet. What sweet photos. I should look mine up...and put them on cd?

Virginia, what a clever idea! Both shots are wonderful (you look so cute!), but the 1st one is so fantastic! What a beautiful photo indeed!

Nice photos, Virginia. Looks like you were about 10 or 12 in 1957! Love those '57 Chevies and those old photos. That color is so classic for the times. We had a '55 Plymouth that was that color. It's interesting how we really did have a thing for those cars. No one would go out of their way today to take a photo in front of a Honda Accord! But we'd do it for a classic or exotic car in a heartbeat.

Maybe I'll look through my mom's photos for some car shots. Our dark green '56 Buick Special was quite something.

MR. E, Thanks for pointing out the "age" thing! HA I'd like to see your 56 Buick. ( Well that sounds like a old timer's pick up line doesn't it!) Did it have that little bar that selected stations on the radio? Yes, the mint green Chevy was the star of the show in our home. I also might point out that there were no close up photographs taken. Had to get the whole person in from head to toe. DIdn't want to miss those socks!

Life was good for the little girl. This is so fun, going through the family scrapbook. Now I want more.

V: Here's what our '56 Buick looked like. Same colors, although I think the roof on ours was dark green.

I remember our cars from the 50's, fins and all. I lost all my old photos to Huricane Ivan, the bastard, but I can sill appreciate seeing other people's nostalgic photos and the pleasure they bring. Isn't blogging wonderful how it pulls different parts of our lives together? Happy Easter, Virginia. See you soon.

Oooo Aaaaaa......I grew up with these cars. We had the USAF based on the Royal Air Force air station close to home. All through the 1950s it was huge cars and free Wrigleys for us local kids and we watched Sabres and Super Sabres and B52s in the skies and went to the airshows. It was soooo exciting. We had American servicemen running amok with guns and air crashes and lots of new aquaintances to make. I was sorry to see them go.

Note your azaleas are earlier than ours........climate.....but note, V, azaleas are well known here and the Isabella Plantation in Richmond Park has what is perhaps one of the finest displays in Europe during the flowering season.

This post has been so much fun for me. I've heard from two loyal B'ham readers via email today and even got a photo of my friend Nancy next to their Chevy one Easter!

Chuckeroon,
I want to see that azalea season at the Isabella Plantation!! Glad this post evoked some fond memories for you as well my friend.

PJ,
Most of our family photos were taken from such a distance, it could be anybody! I'll share with you HA Damn that IVan! Can't wait to see you this week. Plan to stay up late and do a lot of talking!

Daryl,
Oh my, Toni Home Permanents!! If I'm not mistaken they ones for little girls were called Tonettes. That was a nightmare for sure. My mother thankfully gave up on those.

M-N,
Bawk Bawk!
