You're A Grand Old Flag!

It's the Fourth of July.   All over Birmingham folks are cooking ribs, munching on potato salad and baked beans and cranking  homemade ice cream.  There's also a whole lot of flag waving going on.  My adorable next door neighbors,  Jay and William  patiently cooperated while Miss Virginia took a zillion photos in my driveway last week.   I thought you might also enjoy Kate Smith's legendary rendition of "God Bless America" as well. Nobody could sing it like she could!  Happy Birthday America!

"Your", not "you're".

God bless the whole earth, not just the USA. You're a part of God's earth so why do you guys always say "God bless America" like you're the only country?

I wonder how God feels when people bless things on His behalf at times, without checking to see if it's okay with him first.

Nice. Nothing more patriotic on this American holiday...

Well other than going and blowing stuff up...

Hope you have a wonderful holiday.

I believe she was speaking to the flag. Saying "you are grand old flag". Just because someone says God Bless America does not mean they don't want anything else blessed. As for you "Anonymous", as we say in the south, bless your heart!

Love your top photo with the kids and the flags! So very heart-warming!

Yes, God bless America! Land that I love. Stand beside her and guide her! We can pray those things and we can ask for those things!

Normal people pray blessings on things that they love and they pray for others. They long for others to enjoy peace and safety and freedom. I pray that for the whole world. World peace, y'all! And I'm not even a beauty pageant contestant. LOL!

Excusez moi!!!! I left the A out of "You're A Grand Old Flag! " ( it's been added now) but the "you're" is not misspelled. It's a well known song so feel free to look it up. I don't however, apologize for loving my country and our flag, Happy July 4th everyone!!!!

I could have sworn I left a message. Something to the effect that you were sure to have something up your sleeve for this day. And that I wanted you to save me a plate.

Happy 4th Virg!

And V, you're a grand lady! ...
"Keep your eye on a that Grand Old Flag!"

Take a few minutes to read our Declaration of Independence. We asked for God's blessing and "Divine Providence" from the very beginning, and it is all there for the world to read. Sing it, Kate!!!

Happy 4th of July V. There are some right old grumps out there today!

Enjoy yourselves :)

Marley- HA Well I think it very fitting that "Freedom Of Speech" is alive and well on BADPB today! One thing I've learned: You can't please all of the people, all of the time.

V, I'm with you. I think of myself as human before American but I can't forget all the privileges and opportunities I've had because I live in this country. Wishing blessings on some of us does not exclude the rest.

And happy 4th to you! I'll be adding a picture or two of the parade here in Ridgewood NJ to today's post soon.

When people say, "God Bless" it means may God bless. It is a request not a blessing on God's behalf.

But I agree, bless your heart anonymous. It does seem to need some tender loving care today.

CO,
Let me explain SOUTHERN TALK. The children down here refer to adults as Miss Virginia or Mr. Tom etc. My cute little neighbors started out calling me Miss Ginia. Now I'm sad to say, they can call me by my real name! Miss GInia was soooo cute! HA I know, it's a southern thing, you folks on the west coast don't understand, but now you do, right??? :)

Oh, I understand, Miss Ginia. But then again, I'm from Texas!

Happy fourth, wonderful V!

Bugger! I wish I had been able to get here to have words with Anon. I'm not a flag waver, but I defend the right and all that. Have you noticed the anons are always a pain in the butt.
