I took this photo from the viaduct on 21 Street in downtown Birmingham. A very nostalgic scene, reminiscent of days gone by when the railroad played an important role in Birmingham's history.
Excellent composition and LOS! Trains play a major role in my memories, too. I grew up in the mountain West (Utah/Wyoming) where trains are a daily part of the American landscape. Nothing like seeing a train rumble across the great American West.
Yes Virginia, this beautiful b&w image is very nostalgic. And perhaps a bit ominous too. I think America may end up regretting dismantling the rail system as the oil situation gets worse. In Europe, you can still go just about everywhere by train but we've lost that here in North America.

I've lived here 9 years and will admit I don't know much about the area except the town I live in. I'm looking forward to checking your blog each day.

Love the way the composition draws the eye from top to bottom and back again. The picture has the feel of 30s - 50s urban photojournalism.

It is a wonderful shot, and so perfect as b&w. Indutsrial landscapes can be equally as stunnings sunsets in the right hands,
I like the use of B&W which does emphasise the nostalgic atmosphere. The tracks draw the eye to the horizon...lovely.
