SKY WATCH FRIDAY - Red Tiles, Blue Sky

Highlands Methodist Church is probably one of the most photographed churches in Birmingham and rightfully so. Overlooking the famous fountain in 5 Points South, it's one of Birmingham's oldest churches.  Built in the Spanish Renaissance Revival style,  it is just as striking today as it was when it was built 99 years ago.

I wouldn't have guessed this was Birmingham. Looks like a city by the Mediterranean Sea.

Thanks Wren. I shot it as part of the theme Euro Birmingham for a photography class last spring. Wait till you see the bell tower photo. I will post it later.

Seeing the little photo on the portal, I was thinking you were in Spain!

Those are such lovely primary colors to be side-by-side. Great sky watch. Thanks for your comments on my blog.
Also, I shoot into the sun apparently because I don't know any better. Being an amateur has its surprises. Cartier-Bresson also said your first 10,000 photos are your worst, so in this digital age, I'm not discouraged at all.

Wow! That is a beautiful church! It's so neat to see places and learn about them like this. I'd have never imagined that Birmingham had such an architectural wonder. Then again, I don't know what I imagined when I thought of Birmingham, but I do know I'm learning a lot and really enjoying this look at your city!

It certainly has a wonderful look of Spanish influence, but I would not expect a church like this one to be a methodist one... I beleive that at least in Europe they are mostly of a very simple design!

Love it! Doesn't even look like the 'Ham. I love the spot you choose for the photo, such an unassuming angle and it works!!! Thanks agian for showing me and all the others a great shot of Birmingham!

Love the color on the wall and tiles on the roof. It feels like Italy, near the Mediterranean Sea.

Birmingham, AL is lucky to have such a magnificent looking church.
