Greece is the Word!

Today's photos are hot off the press from Holy Trinity- Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral's Greek Food Festival. We are fortunate to have a large Greek community in Birmingham and oh my can they cook! The Greek chicken and rice was the absolute best I have ever eaten. The ladies and gentlemen of the church cook for weeks and not only serve a wide selection of delicious hot items, but they offer frozen dishes to take home for later. To top it off you get to hear some lively music and watch children of all ages perform their traditional Greek dances. I promise some photos of them very soon. All in all it's a great weekend in Birmingham when the Greeks throw the best festival in town.
The Tune du Jour is of course, "Zorba the Greek"!

I like this still life composition, V. The elements, the tone, and the composition look beautiful and classic.

I actually got to see Anthony Quinn perform Zorba in his last tour of the stage show, when it came to Sacramento. It was also one of the first "grown up" movies I remember seeing, with the scandalous encounter of Alan Bates and the young widow.

Oh, now my mouth is watering. I just love Greek food -- and after enough ouzo, I love those Greek line dances!

Coincidence; I went to see Mamma Mia! with all its wonderful Greek scenery and then fall on your Greek festival. Perhaps something's telling me to go to Greece!
Sounds like a delightful festival and the sepia photo is perfect..

Your post and Angel's comment reminded me that I also must go and see Mamma Mia - the mixture of (Swedish) music and Greece!

Mamma Mia was disappointing - except for Meryl - disappointing.

However, your bottom image does NOT disappoint. Compare the bouzouki in colour and in sepia: the latter weeps hellenic passion!

Join in Monochrome Monday - you have such an elegant eye.

I love Greek music and Greek food. I have seen your photos from France. All your photos are very very beautiful. I will be back when I have more time. I am getting ready to go back to the US next month.

Another interesting connection. My Mom was born in Albania and I was baptized Greek Orthodox...attended Greek Festivals my entire childhood. Glad to read that so many enjoy the traditions. I added your blog as a link. Well done!

I can guess they can cook. The last time I had any "real" Greek food was at Victoria, B.C. and it was delicious, sitting there looking out over their newly modernized harbor. Wow. And their famous drink that tastes like licorice smells will knock your socks off in a second or two. Just drink some "Ouzo" and try to stand up. LOL

Hee! Love the title of your post. Very nice portrait as well.

Here's a link to a blog I thought you might enjoy. It's written by an English expat in Paris.

http://www.petiteanglaise.com/

It's very witty and insightful. She was fired about two years ago for blogging and went to trial and then wrote a book about it! I sort of "knew" her b/c a journalist friend of mine in Paris was the first one to "uncover" her story. Anyway, since you love all things French, I thought you might enjoy her blog. Bon weekend!

Abe, no ouzo for me or I would have been on the stage with the band! LOL I will vouch for the Greek wine though. Delicious.

I am sorry that I forgot to change my tune last night so most of you missed Zorba!! Maybe you just hummed along.

KM, no photos of the food, we were eating it too fast. You will just have to take my word for it!

Hi V,
Thanks for your comment on my SWF post yesterday.

I just want to let you know that, as per your suggestion, today I post another photo of Villa Isola. A closer look of the southern facade.

Have a great weekend!

It's a wonder that big guy's fingers can play a delicate eight stringed instrument. The tonality and composition of the bottom picture is lovely. Mmmm, the whole things smells good, too.

I like these "Greek" photos, and love anything Greek. So did my husband, and we had just revisited parts of Greece, including Corfu...
